Who left the tap on? At 1428 we had a seasonally extremely high tide: 7.4m at London Bridge. It brought out all the local bores like myself who keep little calendar reminders so we can experience a low-level free thrill. Similar is predicted tmrw at 1507, btw. Days as today, when the Thames feels ready to overspill & boats seem to narrowly clear sunken bridges are rare; but there’s always an odd tension in the air — as if land and water are nose to nose having a pre-fight standoff. It generally passes without incident in this part of town, but if you’re looking to observe a few splashed breaches of the defensive pieces, Bankside’s often your best bet, just in front of Tate Modern. The Away Crowd has headed out to sea now, peacefully ushered out by @LondonPortAuth staff - they’ll be back tomorrow flowing thru the @thames_barrier under the watchful eyes of @AlanBarrierEA and team for another test of many generations’ engineering resolve.
