The fact we don't use the oil ourselves has never been the point, it's just a straw man argument people use as a reason for not drilling.

It is blowing my mind how many people don’t seem able to grasp that oil & gas in the North Sea is not “ours” but was sold off to private companies who will trade it on the international market like any other fuel. We don’t get any kind of privileged access to this fuel.

@darrengrimes @Nomaxone No one is looking in on Britain's energy situation with Envy. We may get to a point one day of home grown clean energy production but at what cost? Loss of industry, manufacturing, and small businesses? Gas and oil can bring in tax revenue to offset the burden on consumers.

International law is a wonderful thing when everyone plays by the rules. Unfortunately the world is a shit show because certain countries either aren't signed up or just don't comply. If the West wants to stay relevant and continue to be the dominant force in the world, they'll have throw the rulebook out the window for a while.

I imagine you're the type of person who could spend every day of your entire life feeling ashamed of your country if you tried hard enough.... What you may not realise is that you would feel the exact same in almost any country if you applied the same idealistic standard. It's called being left wing and infantile.
