@For_Film_Fans Why need massive crew and 50m? There’s $15k found footage movies that are competently made and tell an effective story, meaning a good actor, director and couple crew could do it for 10x that. But they don’t want to tell a story, they want to be stars. And that time is ending.

BEN AFFLECK on why Hollywood is dying. You need a MINIMUM of $25m to make the movie, another $25m to market it — so that's $50m straight off — and then (for showing the film) Theater’s take 50% too. So a $25m movie needs to make $75m just to break even.

@netflix I feel like I should find Werner a little pretentious but he always just hits the right tone for me, I genuinely like how he examines the world.

@Timcast Every Mandela effect I’ve seen is about pop culture/politics/stories that we experienced when we were kids and now it seems different because we were kids and our memories over long stretches of time are unreliable. Or time travel

@LeadingReport And then republicans talk about doing it and never do. In fact they gave democrats the idea. So funny. I’ll never get over how good Dems are at this stuff. Total manipulation. Must feel good.

@Kama_Kamilia As the only fan on earth of Servant, I concur. They might have shrunk it by one season but any other network or service would have canceled it after season one. I don’t like a lot of Apple shows but mad respect to finishing stories.

@SuitablePolitic All of this is to mock real conspiracy theorists who have been right about everything. This new performative “everything is a conspiracy for no reason” stuff is the only way to flood the market with so much crazy stuff we stop believing the real conspiracies.

Someone is gonna have to tell me why the Jews offed Charlie for maybe-potentially having some closed-door apprehension about Israel... But they're leaving Tucker Carlson alive.
Britta | NoSoup4Knowles@nosoup4knowles

Russell Brand mocks the lone gunman narrative. Blames "the most powerful interest in the world" for Charlie's assassination. Says we shouldn't blame "trans people" because Jesus loves everyone and sees us all as family. Tucker fake laughs hysterically & agrees

@JoyceCarolOates I like how she thinks if she writes her thoughts as though they are an academic exercise she sounds less like a nutcase, but in actuality the emotionally detached tone simply adds a psychopathic tint to the whole mess.

about Butler PA: to believe that it was not staged requires a suspension of disbelief/skepticism beyond what is required to believe it; there are arguments pro & con, but pro (staged) arguments are more numerous. however, there are contrary arguments, that it was not staged, that are plausible, too. but so many questions unanswered.

contrary to my tweets on this fraught subject, I don't really have strong feelings about it; my interest has always been the credulousness/gullibility of (some) fellow Americans. how/why do they believe what they do, often fiercely, when there is no evidence to support their beliefs; or, in the case of Butler PA, much to question honestly, objectively. it is a longtime fascination with human personality, the "stories we tell ourselves."
Joyce Carol Oates@JoyceCarolOates

well, I am hardly the only one. this entire thread of postings is 10-1. anti-T***p, questioning the "assassination attempt"-- count them. seems as if MAGA is shaking loose of its cult unity.

@SocialNomadRach So much modern storytelling is detached like this, as though the entire industry is on SSRIs and even genres that demand rawness, like horror or drama, are filtered through a cloud of ironic nihilism where the only real sin is being made to feel real emotion.

This is an excellent example of how writers can become so unmoored from reality that they lose sense human behaviour and its impact on audiences. Nobody sympathises with cold, detached (inhumane/avoidant) behaviour but they do sympathise with painful rage (humane/expressive).

@Babygravy9 It’s really true. The only time a man should talk this way is when he’s young and opens up to his first girlfriend before their breakup when she uses all of his vulnerabilities as ammunition to rip him apart afterwards and he learns there’s no safe space and to keep it inside.

You couldn’t waterboard this out of me. Honestly, there are things men shouldn’t talk about in public. That was the norm for 99.99% of human history, and it served civilisation—and men themselves, actually—very well.

I don't know about any of this but here's the problem. The Atlantic publishes several pieces (against one side) with nothing but anonymous sourcing which is then disputed by on the record sourcing and they never address it. The Atlantic is run by a former Salon editor. Start there. So when they decide to just change a title out of the blue without explaining it while Jeffrey Goldberg just says it's fake news to Brian Stelter it should raise suspicions. Whatever The Atlantic engages in it's not journalism not on any standard that is taught anywhere about what journalism is. I don't know if anything they're saying about Kash Patel is true or not but the tactics that they engage in is not journalism including stealth editing and anonymous sourcing as their main reason for publishing. If you can't get a single source to go on the record for your peace all you are is Gawker for coastal elites. And if the Atlantic is such a prestige outlet that it claims to be it should be able to get people to go on the record. But they can't. Weirdly. @JeffreyGoldberg
Jorge Bonilla@BonillaJL

Nothing says "we stand by our reporting" like ye olde ghost-edit title swap on The Atlantic's "Operation Get Kash" hitpiece
