What will happen if Muslims start objecting to and protesting Hindu festivals within housing societies? If causing offense is the new criteria, then Holi, Ganpati, and Diwali etc should be barred from society premises too. They claim Eid Al-Adha Bakrid sacrifices pose sanitation issues, a matter the BMC should simply regulate. But the Diwali severely impacts the environment and causes respiratory illnesses, while Ganpati noise pollution has even led to death in Pune. Why is there no equal and just Non-discriminatory law for everyone? Why is chaos manufactured only ahead of Muslim festivals? Why ignore historical truths and ground realities just to blindly follow BJP'S Hindutva politics? This is pure prejudice, and it benefits no one. Do not assume political regimes last forever; the atrocities and trauma we are forced to endure during our festivals will never be forgotten. Housing societies must have a single standard: either permit all festivals, including Eid, Bakrid, Ganpati, and Diwali, or ban all religious celebrations completely. Consistency, not selective targeting, is the only fair solution.! Anything else is pure bigotry, discrimination, and injustice!

Complete mess. #CBSE My daughter finally received the scanned copies of 4 answer sheets and to our shock, page number 22 is missing from one of the documents. On top of that, marks have not been awarded for several answers that exactly match the official answer key. And this isn’t limited to just one paper the same issue appears across multiple subjects. Instead of focusing on competitive exams and college admissions, students are being forced to run from pillar to post just to understand why correct answers were ignored or pages went missing. Do the authorities even understand what 30-35 marks can mean for a Class 12 student whose entire future and admission process depends on these scores? This is not a small administrative lapse. This is playing with the careers, mental health and future of thousands of students. Shame on a system that continues to fail students. And shame on those at the helm who continue to remain silent while young lives are pushed into anxiety and uncertainty. The system has failed us once again. Alas. #CBSE @cbseindia29 @AllCBSENews @cbse_guide @dpradhanbjp @PMOIndia
Geetu Moza@Geetu_Moza

Finally, we received the answer sheets and the student is short by 30 marks. #CBSE Do you understand what that means for a Class 12 student whose entire college admission process depends on these scores? You experimented with their future while students and parents were left in complete uncertainty for days. The emotional stress, anxiety and loss of trust caused by this entire process is unacceptable. This is not just about marks on paper. It is about careers, opportunities and the future of young students. Such negligence from authorities responsible for handling something this critical cannot be brushed aside. @dpradhanbjp @cbseindia29 @AllCBSENews @cbse_guide @PMOIndia

Most people demanding the closure of the Gymkhana Club seem angry about being denied entry. It is a private club. Having known it well since I was a child it puzzles me that it suddenly became a ‘national security threat’.

The Assam Uniform Civil Code is not uniform at all. It completely exempts tribal communities from UCC’s coverage. Every community has the right to protect its culture under Article 29, but why is only the tribals’ autonomy being protected? This is the imposition of a law that no one wants. The constituent assembly did not envision a mandatory UCC. In Islam, no one can exclude an heir from inheritance. No one can write a will to give their whole property to one son or deny their daughter inheritance. This UCC allows anyone to write a will and deny their daughters their fair share. This is far from a gender just law.

I welcome the pushback to my post and interview on the #CockroachJantaParty phenomenon. Many users dismissed it as a Pakistani-manufactured conspiracy, but that is too simplistic: there are also counter-claims by @abhijeet_dipke that 94% of his followers are based in India. Whatever be the truth (and perhaps @Instagram should put the record straight), my point is that suppressing it is foolish in a democracy. Democracy’s great virtue is the outlets it provides for public sentiment, frustration and grievances. Letting these be aired on a satirical site IS in the national interest. Whatever be the founders’ motivations, there is no denying that they have tapped into an important strain of national sentiment among our youth. As custodians of our democracy, both Government and Opposition need to sit up, listen and tackle the underlying discontent. Ignoring it, denying it and worst of all, suppressing it would be disastrous. Such movements serve like the valves on a pressure-cooker, letting off steam. If the valves were closed, the cooker would explode under the pressure. I prefer satire to chaos, anarchy or revolution. I also feel it is our job to identify and deliver solutions to the problems of Young India. Let’s lift the ban and tune in! hindustantimes.com/s/1V723Pc

Mass voter deletions in Bengal, demolitions in Bandra, delimitation in Assam: you can do anything in India now if you simply use the magic "B" word. No need to actually prove anything, legally or otherwise. It doesn't even matter how surreal the contention is given GDP figures. Just say it and it's done.

Why is the West not curious on the great Indian 🇮🇳 civilization? This week Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Norway. The government rolled out the red carpet. King Harald invited for lunch. All bigwigs of Norwegian business turned up. This is of course as it should be at such a historic visit. Rather different was media. No curiosity, no real attempt to understand India. When the third most powerful man in the world visits Norway, you may expect some real interest? An attempt to understand the world’s third largest economy, a global green leader, one of the world’s brightest civilizations?? It’s not that Norway is overrun with visit at this level. Last Indian top visit was Indira Gandhi in 1983. Last Chinese president visit was 1996, last American president was 2009. Here are some taste bits from Norwegian media: * Aftenposten the largest newspaper printed a caricature of Modi as a snake charmer, many found it racist and derogatory. The accompanying article (written by an otherwise brilliant journalist) described Modi as a “slightly annoying man” and simply showcased that India is not high on the papers reading lists. * Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK), the state broadcaster, explained “why prime minister Støre is clearing his desk to receive Modi”. From everyone outside Norway I got exactly the opposite question: Why did Modi use his valuable time in such a small and insignificant place? * Dagsavisen, a left of center daily, sent a young journalist to throw questions after Modi - claiming that India is 157 on a global democracy ranking. When a ranking is so contrary to common sense - why doesnt she ask those who created the ranking why they spread such nonsense? I am not aware of one Norwegian journalist closely following India. NOT ONE! How can the public learn more? Unless you believe democracy only fits a handful of small, homogenous, ultra rich western nations, India is the miracle of democracy. The large, complex, lingustically and religiously diverse nation with many poor people - which has etablished a vibrant democracy and is much less violent than Europe or America. India can in fact make a claim to be the worlds most homegrown and impressive democracy. We are entering the Asian century. Unless we Europeans become more curious - to civiliazation, history, politics and economy in the Global South - we will become the big losers of history.

Absolutely horrifying 🤯 This is how filthy the water has become in the United States for people living near Meta’s data centre. Water levels have dropped drastically, with very little pressure in the pipelines. Even people in rural areas are now forced to buy water not just for drinking but for bathing as well. Data centres require huge amounts of water for cooling. This is potentially what could happen to water resources in surrounding areas. India needs to be mindful of this before we build more data centres.
