American football didn't just resemble rugby. It was rugby.
In 1876, Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Columbia adopted the English RFU rulebook almost word for word. For years, American colleges simply played the English game.
Then Walter Camp rewrote it, one rule at a time. The scrimmage in 1880. Downs in 1882. The forward pass in 1906.
The evidence is still hiding in plain sight: a "touchdown" is named for a rugby rule that no longer exists. You don't have to touch the ball down. The word outlived the game it came from.
England wrote the first draft. 🏴

The power of #bcafc fans is unrivalled. Jake got to meet his favourite player and get his new ball signed. I have a very, very happy 7 year old!

@JamieRaynor @BBCWYS On the piece on the intertoto cup didn’t we get in on the basis of best disciplinary record ? I’m sure I remember that had something to do with it at the time?
English

Great to be back recording and great to have the brilliant Derm Tanner with us our first guest of the summer!
Loved this episode.
