I was speaking at The Getty Center back in October and was blown away by how bad Los Angeles had gotten. Sunset boulevard, where I used to live, was full of “for lease” signs all over the place. It felt so eerie. And I say that as someone who lived in West Hollywood throughout the 2010’s. LA in the early 2010’s and probably 2000’s in general was so much fun. The best parties. Everywhere you went, people were shockingly beautiful and health conscious. It slowly started deteriorating in the late 2010’s only for the nail in the coffin to happen during COVID. When I bring it up, people are like “what do you mean, LA is great!” And they live in like Silverlake or wherever. You cannot compare how incredible of a city LA was to how it is today. And it’s a shame because California is such a beautiful state. You land and the air is mesmerizing. “LaLa Land” really was the last ode to what made Hollywood magical and they snubbed it for best picture just to nail it in the coffin.
