This was single handedly the best move I made in investing. 1) Made close to 2.5Cr in profits 2) Made close to 1Cr in Options income 3) Made close to 8% of entire portfolio (around 80-90Lakhs) in USD appreciation to INR All this was last 1 year. India is an amazing market to invest. But, I will only invest big chunks when there is enough discount. Till then, quite happy owning monopoly tech stocks. Writing covered calls, and generating a solid cash flows. Everyone should try it. And, see if it makes sense for them.

I placed the trade and went to sleep with a proper stop-loss, but when I woke up, the loss was much bigger, the stop-loss got skipped. I don’t know who to blame, but one thing is clear I learned a hard lesson. If you’re an option seller, you can’t afford to sleep after punching an order.

1) Tired of office life? - Low cost option: use YouTube to up-skill at 1 thing. Build an up-work profile. Promote it using Linkedin by writing actionable content. Do this for 52 weeks. - Expensive option: take a sabbatical. Experiment with a small business. 2) Tired of pollution? - Low cost option: move to places like Goa or in some village. - Expensive option: move to Thailand, Georgia. 3) Tired of taxes? - Low cost option: open a brokerage account on global equities. Do not book any capital gains. When the account goes big, change your tax residency. And, book profits once your residency changes. - Expensive option: setup a base in low-tax countries immediately. Enjoy perks (but for this, you need to meet a threshold). There is a solution for every problem. You just need to educate yourself.

Indian stock exchanges are closed today for Mumbai's municipal elections. The fact that our exchanges, which have international linkages, are shut down for a local municipal election shows poor planning and a serious lack of appreciation for second-order effects. As Munger said: "Show me the incentive, and I will show you the outcome." The holiday exists because no one who matters has any incentive to oppose the market holiday. It also tells you how far we have to go before global investors take us seriously.

I've zero expectations from this government. I don't think they'll reduce LTCG. Over a period of time, I actually expect capital gains to be taxed at your nominal tax rate. Say if you are in 30% tax bracket, your capital gains too can get taxed at that rate. My personal view is we are slowly moving towards there. We saw despite revenue neutral assurance, how taxes on cigarettes were hiked. To fund the welfare schemes, Maharashtra significantly increased the taxes on alcohol. I agree both income tax and GST was streamlined last year. I think these are exceptions. Given the ever expanding welfare schemes, I don't think government would reduce any tax related to capital markets. Be happy if they don't increase it any further.
