@EireNua1 If people are to be taxed, it should at least go towards something that benefits them directly. No one paying this much in tax is getting anything worth their while.

People like this are beyond help. Imagine running cover for the fact the state takes 30-40% of your income. Or, in other words, that for every 10 hours you work, you are working 3-4 for free. In a 40 hour work week, you are working 12-16 hours for free. In a 22 day working month, you are working 6-9 days for free. In a working year, you are working between 3.6-4.8 months per year for free. And the more you work and earn, and the more successful you become, the more the state takes. And you have apologists like this excusing it all, because that's what Communists and useful idiots do. *and yes, I do mean for free. Don't give me the 'social contract' talk as the state wastes so flippantly, our infrastructure is shite, the courts are handing out light sentences left and right, and every single thing in the economy becomes more and more expensive.
Ciarán Nugent@ciarannugent

Which comes to a 31% effective tax rate on 80k (which is higher earnings than 86% of all Irish workers) for this single adult We don't have high effective vincome tax rates in an international context

I’m going to get a lot of flak for this.c but I don’t care. This Enoch Burke stuff is bullcrap. I’m as anti-genderism as it gets, but there has been a deliberate effort by Burke and his supporters to present events in a dishonest light. First of all, Burke is not in jail for refusing to use they/them pronouns; he’s there because he refuses to obey the no trespassing order he’s been given. Every time they let this guy out of jail, he goes right back to the school, and I’m sorry, but that’s not the same thing as being a real prisoner of conscience. Furthermore, his wife and mother were not arrested for visiting him; they were arrested on a warrant for contempt stemming from their disruptive behavior in the courtroom last month. The jail is just where the police caught up to them after they skipped their court dates. Mr. Burke was indeed fired over an issue of conscience, but his behavior since has been inappropriate, dishonest, antagonistic, and on numerous instances, a direct violation of a court order to stay away from the school he was fired from. He has frightened children and staff, and seems incapable of understanding that he no longer works there. His presence is a deliberate disruption and in today’s world, threatening. I really don’t appreciate the dishonesty in the way Burke has presented his side of events. This is the kind of behavior one would expect from TRAs, and it makes us look bad when we support him. Mr. Burke long ago crossed the line of what is appropriate when it comes to his behavior, and until he can accept that he has lost his job and move on, jail is probably the best place for him.
Enoch Burke@EnochBurke

BREAKING: Enoch Burke’s mother and sister arrested and jailed Martina and Ammi Burke were arrested by Gardaí today at Castlerea Prison after visiting jailed schoolteacher Enoch Burke, their son and brother. Judge Brian Cregan sentenced them to two weeks in prison after they spoke out against his lies and unlawful actions in the case of Enoch Burke. Martina and Ammi Burke had been teaching in Castlebar this morning before travelling to Castlerea for their scheduled visit at 2.15pm. As they left the prison after concluding the visit, Gardaí were waiting outside to arrest them. Lies have been told from the bench since September 2022 when Enoch Burke was first taken from his teaching post at Wilson’s Hospital School and thrown into a jail cell. He refused to call a student by a new name and the “they” pronoun. He was subsequently suspended and has now spent over 600 days in prison. Ireland’s church leaders have maintained a treacherous silence on this issue. Archbishops Eamon Martin and John McDowell speak frequently about battlefields far away - Gaza, Ukraine, the Middle East - but are silent on the battlefields in the schools of Ireland, on their own doorstep. Children in the classroom are being educated in every form of sexual perversion. Martina and Ammi Burke have now been sent to Mountjoy Women’s Prison because they refused to be silent in the face of gross injustice from the bench. Parents, rise up and speak out for your sons and your daughters.

This is entirely backwards. High trust means that everyone is self regulated, not that you ignore/overlook everyone else's errors. The latter is actually the hallmark of a low trust individualistic society since you have given up on, or don't believe in, a set of shared behaviors The funny thing is in high trust societies there is a lot of scolding of your neighbors, even if they only make a minor mistake! Try jay-walking in Japan for instance and check out the stares from the elderly. Maybe that is not the society you want to live in, but stop pretending like accepting whatever anyone else does is high-trust, or what your opponents want.

Chris Hansen, host of 'To Catch a Predator', says every single time he sets up a sting to catch pedophiles, it’s an illegal. “It seems today that we can't do a sting, whether we're in the south or the Midwest or west coast or east coast, without catching somebody who's in this country illegally.”

@minordissent @memeticsisyphus They believe in the blank slate. When they see other groups treated "unfairly" i.e. Blacks incarcerated at higher rates, they think this is a form of discrimination, not that Blacks just commit more crime. Since law enforcement arrests them, police become the target.

just FYI the reason women and feminized men believe that ICE, and law enforcement more broadly, are evil is because they genuinely believe that if everyone would just be nice then everyone else would be nice back and we would live in utopia. And they see it as their moral obligation to try and enforce this. Their entire model of politics is unironically nothing more than "hey that wasn't very nice! you better cut it out you big meany face!"
Jesus Freakin Congress@TheJFreakinC

🚨BREAKING: A new video out of Minneapolis shows the truth ICE doesn’t want you to see… compliance does not protect you. In this video, ICE agents pull up to a vehicle and immediately demand the driver’s ID. The man calmly asks the most basic, legally protected question: “Why am I being pulled over?” They never answer… because they don’t have a legal reason to stop him. Even so, the man begins to retrieve his ID anyway. An agent then orders him to turn off the vehicle. The driver says, “No problem, sir, I’ll get out.” The agent refuses, then immediately changes commands again: “I need to see your ID.” Suddenly, an agent on the passenger side pounds on the window. Then he strikes it with a hard object, clearly threatening to break it. At the same time, the driver-side agent again demands the ID. This is not confusion. This is intentional command overload… a tactic used to manufacture “noncompliance” so force can be justified. ICE’s own training materials explicitly state: “Noncompliance or refusal to cooperate with officer commands, without fighting back, does NOT violate 18 U.S.C. § 111.” In plain English: not immediately obeying commands is NOT a crime. And here’s the key legal issue: Unless agents have: • a valid arrest warrant, or • probable cause that a specific crime has been committed they cannot: • use force • break windows • issue violent threats • detain or arrest someone Probable cause means specific, articulable facts that would make a reasonable officer believe a crime occurred… not vibes, not attitude, not silence, not filming, not asking questions. Back in the video, the passenger-side agent escalates further, shouting: “First time I ask you to roll your window down, you do it.” The driver responds: “Are you in danger, sir? Are you escalating this?” The agent replies: “I don’t know. Hands up.” Despite the driver repeatedly attempting to comply and hand over ID, agents continue shouting conflicting commands. At one point, the agent orders the driver to “talk to the original agent”… which is exactly what the driver was doing before the window-smashing threat. Then the man asks, “Are you feeling unsafe or uneasy?” The agent responds, “I don’t know, man.” while standing on the passenger side of the car, smirking. The driver finally says what anyone would say surrounded by armed men: “How many guns do I have around me? I need you to calm down. I’m asking him to stop banging on my car. Is that too much?” He even offers… again… to step out of the vehicle. This is not law enforcement. This is intimidation fishing for an excuse. No probable cause. No warrant. No lawful basis for force. And yet, the escalation came entirely from the agents. This video proves something chilling: you can comply, stay calm, ask lawful questions… and still be threatened with violence. So, the question isn’t “Why didn’t he just comply?” The question is how many people have already been assaulted under this exact playbook… and how many more will be, before this stops?

The idea - regardless of her politics - that men in the uniform of a government would fire three shots into a car killing an unarmed mother of three who was patently and obviously no threat to their lives, is one thing. The idea that the political right - the people supposed to be opposed fundamentally to the tyrannical use of government power to coerce citizens - would cheer it is quite another. If you're sitting on the internet spending your time defending people who've deprived three kids of their mum because you're arguing her steering wheel wasn't in precisely the right place to avoid her murder, then I think you're lost. The state should never have the power to kill like that without impunity. Grant it, and they'll use it on you next.

If you want to say this woman's death is a tragedy, that we should pray for her soul as Christians and Americans, then I agree with you. But the media dishonesty about this officer is an all-time moment in shameless press propaganda. Does this law enforcement officer have a family? Yes. Did he he get seriously injured by a vehicle just six months ago? Yes. Did he have reason to fear for his life? Yes. Does he have every right to safety while he's doing his job? Yes. I want our law enforcement officers to do their jobs and come home safely to their family. If you don't like the immigration policy of the Trump administration, attack me. Leave our law enforcement alone. And it's time for the press to finally tell the truth about this story. x.com/rapidresponse4…

@john_mcguirk So when a woman is obstructing federal agents from doing their job (crime), resists arrest (crime), and attempts to fleet the scene whilst hitting an agent with her car (crime), this still doesn't warrant being shot? 😂😂

🚨WATCH: Here’s another angle of the woman trying to run over ICE agents in Minnesota. She was directly trying to run over the agent and was shot in self defense. Horrible situation, but when you turn your car into a weapon… what do you expect.
