@michaeljknowles I’m a Lutheran who agrees with Luther’s view… which also happens to be the Roman Catholic view The only real distinction is that historically Protestants have viewed Semper Virgo as a pious opinion rather than dogma

When it comes to the perpetual virginity of Mary, do you agree with the Catholic view or with the view of Protestant reformers Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, and John Wesley?

@SidtheSquid37 Luther’s Catechisms are a must-read for anyone who hasn’t had a chance to. Even if you’re not Lutheran

I am delighted that Bishop Sarah has been appointed as the first female Archbishop of Canterbury; prayers are with her and her family as she takes up this massive role at a time when the life-transforming message of hope we have in Jesus Christ is needed more than ever.

@ScottSwansonEC @DrJordanBCooper “Awful” at one point meant “awe-inspiring”. It’s considered archaic now but you’ll still see it every once in a while

"But there are occasions in which there is no difference at all between the priest and those under him; for instance, when we are to partake of the awful mysteries; for we are all alike counted worthy of the same things: not as under the Old Testament [when] the priest ate some things and those under him others, and it was not lawful for the people to partake of those things whereof the priest partook. But not so now, but before all one body is set and one cup." - St. John Chrysostom, Homily XVIII on 2 Corinthians, NPNF First Series, 12: 366.

@jurgen_nauditt “The good” and “the virtuous” are ancient, transcendent ideas. A high school level philosophy class would’ve prevented this post

This is 100% Goebbels. Terms like "forces of evil," "the good," and "the virtuous," as well as the notion of an "inflamed army," reflect a dualistic worldview that pits good against evil—a stylistic device often used in totalitarian ideologies to mobilize emotions and demonize opponents.
Acyn@Acyn

Miller: We will prevail over the forces of wickedness and evil. They cannot imagine what they have awakened. They cannot conceive of the army that they have arisen in all of us. Because we stand for what is good, what is virtuous…

@WalmartThomist Just bought my first home. Patience is key because of how crazy the market is. Having a good experienced agent in your corner is also huge to help you make a competitive offer without going to the poor house

@C2Antiquity I love our Anglican brothers and probably consider them the closest to us. That being said, I’m not Anglican because I find their hold on most doctrine to be too loose- with the exception of ecclesiology which they hold too tight

I was at Concordia St. Louis during Trump’s first term. Immigration was a hot topic among the student body. Following Dr. Biermann (who was the only professor who mentioned it) we were largely pro-immigration because God had called us to love our neighbors. Thankfully, watching the disaster that was immigration policy under Biden disabused me of the idea that allowing illegals to flood the country was a good and charitable thing to do. A problem shared by all Christian churches (including papists, whose immigration policy would destroy the country if implemented) is that we have forgotten what is necessary for a good government to function. We have no working theory of politics, so every conversation devolves into emotionalism. One group grows nostalgic for Americana, the other has a bleeding heart for people who would destroy his town if they immigrated there in large numbers. I too am nostalgic for Americana, but that is not a sound basis for political theory. In my humble opinion, it would be useful for every pastor to have a working knowledge of classical political theory because we are faced with Christian Nationalists on one side, who wouldn’t know what to do with the car if they caught it, and Dr. Biermann on the other, who doesn’t understand why flooding the country with people who don’t share our values will destroy it. We just have to do better.

@BrLoganMichael Traditionally, private confession and absolution in the Lutheran Church is done at the altar rail. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the booths, but it’s not historically the tradition that the Lutherans inherited

@DrJordanBCooper I love your work Dr. Cooper, but I find myself disagreeing here. Rhetorically, Trump is a train wreck on the issue of abortion. But in terms of accomplishments, he actually got Roe overturned while many more rhetorically pro-life politicians couldn’t do it
