Why do people complain about RPGs having optional romance? There has never been a role-playing game made worse because it included romance options. If anything, romance usually makes the entire experience better. And the best part is that it’s optional. If you don’t care about it, just don’t engage with it.

And I never understand why you're so salty about us not wanting bullshit gay shit on a game that doesn't need it. Again, is a matter of preference. If you like it, good for you. I don't. I won't defend it. Mass effect had gay options too, and nobody cared because the setting was logical. But in KCD they created a character, to give the "option" of turning his friendship gay on the second game, out of nowhere. Just because optics and politics. That's shit options and I don't like it.

Yeah I agree he’s living quite a “mcnasty” life too, but where’s really the harm on that? So what if he constantly talks about it? It’s his life. I don’t understand the personal attacks on living the way you want to when he’s not affecting anyone else but himself. Attack his opinions, not his personal life. DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT JUST HAPPENED TO SUBNAUTICA 2.. > be Subnautica 2 developers > player politely asks why you can’t kill most creatures > level designer snaps back: "This is not a killing game, go play Sons of the Forest if you want violence" > another dev adds that big creatures will stay safe because "the game should feel right" The first Subnautica let you stab leviathans with a knife. Now they want you to peacefully coexist with 50-meter monsters like it’s a underwater yoga class. Why do developers treat their most loyal fans like this? Why can’t they just answer normally without being condescending and aggressive? Loyal players are the ones who supported you for years. If you keep talking down to them, they’ll simply stop playing. And in the end, you - the developers - will be the ones who lose the most. Peak "go touch grass" energy in 2026. You think this approach will help the game long-term or are we watching it slowly die?

Subnautica 2 devs say "go play Sons of the Forest" if you don't like its lack of violence. The game focuses on underwater exploration, and you cannot kill most creatures. On the official Discord, one player asked why killing is impossible in SN2 as it makes no sense. Level designer Artyom O’Rielly replied, “This is not a killing game, so go play Sons of the Forest if you want to kill.” Another developer said, “The team discusses this a lot inside the studio and may let players catch small fish for food, but large creatures will stay safe so the game feels right.” This idea comes from the first Subnautica, as the team wants players to discover things, feel wonder, and live with ocean life instead of fighting it. A fan-made mod already lets players kill creatures, and the studio is reading all feedback. It plans to add better ways to scare off creatures but will not add weapons. Early access is expected to last up to 3 years.

The developers of Subnautica 2 want to keep the game non-violent like the first one. They want players to adapt and live with the ocean creatures instead of fighting or killing them with weapons. This core idea started years ago when studio founder Charlie Cleveland chose to leave guns out of the series after the Sandy Hook shooting. He wanted the game to feel like peaceful exploration of nature rather than adding more violence to the world. Even though fans from one country overwhelmingly asked for the chance to craft weapons in the sequel the team says this will be a repeated point of resistance. One developer explained "I think it's a point of resistance that we'll get repeatedly while making the game though we feel strongly about it." So players must instead use smart tools evasion and distraction to survive.

Krafton is set to pay a $250 million bonus to the developers of Subnautica 2 after the game’s explosive Early Access launch. In 2021, when Krafton acquired Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the deal included an earn-out clause. If the studio’s revenue from the Subnautica series exceeded $69.8 million, Krafton would owe $3.12 for every additional dollar generated, up to a maximum bonus of $250 million. Subnautica 2 launched into Early Access selling over one million copies in the first hour and surpassing two million in just 12 hours. These figures make it highly likely that the revenue targets will be comfortably exceeded before the court-extended deadline of September 2026. Krafton had previously delayed the release and changed studio leadership to prevent the bonus from triggering. A Delaware court ruled these actions were intended to avoid the payout, ordering the reinstatement of former CEO Ted Gill and granting additional time for the earn-out period.
