Even though this is from an older podcast, Jimmy Carr’s take still hits different: “The Roman Empire didn’t fall. It became the Church.” And the British Empire? According to Jimmy, it didn’t collapse either — it simply turned into a bank. We handed the colonies back with a polite “sorry about that,” then offered to “hold” all their money safely in the City of London. Roman Empire → Vatican British Empire → Global financial hub Empires don’t die. They just rebrand. Still one of the most provocatively entertaining history takes I’ve heard. You absolutely do need to show an economic gain for a $100B project. I think the biggest part of the problem is that Canadians do not understand money at all. They have no idea what that amount is to us, how much opportunity cost there is here.

@Smileyyeg Not every investment by the government needs to be for economic benefit… it’s a quality of life investment that will affect millions and have environmental benefits too. The 401 is the busiest highway in North America, a lot of our good travel that corridor. It lightens traffic!

@MarcNixon24 With all due respect, Canada Post provides services to many Canadians in rural and remote areas in Canada. Without it, many Canadians would have not mail delivery service AT ALL because these locations don’t operate at volume but out of necessity. Defund the Sea Be Sea though.

@ryangerritsen The actual problem is the stock market and fiat currency. It’s collusion between banks and those with the highest limits of accessible credit. It is this systems that transfer the wealth of many to a select few. Private corporations are not beholden to investors but are to banks.

For those who may not be aware, the Right to Repair is a big deal for farmers. The farm equipment industry had adopted a model to maximize profits by preventing farmers from repairing their own equipment or using independent shops. This effectively forced them to use only the more official dealerships for more expensive repairs and parts. "The Right to Repair movement advocates for laws requiring manufacturers to provide consumers and independent shops with access to parts, tools, and repair manuals."

Every farmer now has the Right to Repair their own equipment thanks to President Trump. It’s crazy that our talented farmers were being prevented from doing this previously. This announcement is about common sense. Farmers will be able to spend more time in the field and less money in the repair shop because of this important new EPA guidance.
