Spent a few days in Mexico City 🇲🇽 Two takeaways Belfast/NI could learn from: 1. Tiny bars – licensing laws allow micro-premises to thrive. 2. Food vendors on every corner – space + permits encourage it. It’s a city that legislates for entrepreneurship, not against it.

@SJAMcBride Brilliant article. I particularly liked the ‘these applause-hungry legislators’ remark. All staged style and photo ops but no substance.

Stormont has voted to accidentally tie its own hands by passing a sweeping law whose implications most MLAs didn't understand. Now it's going to force them to do what they hate: take unpopular decisions. m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/opinion/column…

Can someone explain why @BelfastTrust accepted a building without testing every single system? Seems to be sheer incompetence or simple disregard of public funds. Also, why has same contractor been appointed to build the children’s hospital? bbc.com/news/articles/…

It was a pleasure to welcome James Lawless TD, Minister for the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science @DeptofFHed, to @QUBelfast today for his first official engagement in #NorthernIreland. Minister Lawless met with some of our students from the Republic of Ireland, who were funded by the Irish Government to study #Medicine and #Nursing at Queen’s. We are proud to play a key role in addressing #Healthcare workforce needs across the island of Ireland, through this important initiative. He also toured our world-class facilities, including the two all-island #Research centres on #Climate and #SustainableFood. These are important collaborations which highlight what we can achieve together. @lawlessj | @QUBIGFS | @QUBbioscience | @QUB_SMDBS | @QUBSONM | #HigherEducation

@BelTel It’s almost as if this was always the plan? The view of Titanic Belfast was always protected when viewed from the slipways, not the motorway or Bel Tel offices 🙄 Much needed new housing, development and investment. Now let’s see the rest of Titanic Quarter developed.

An ‘eye sore’ or ‘much needed’? It’s been at the centre of years of public controversy and conversation, but as Belfast’s iconic Titanic Centre firmly fades into the background behind towering apartment blocks, the public is as divided as ever. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-…

@AllisonMorris1 @mmcgarry92 @bubjeeps They’re still being constructed. 190 social housing units and 580 rental apartments is a positive development. Always the plan to develop this area for housing.

Planning permission aside they’re throwing those apartments up in front of that big iceberg building, every time I look out the window they’ve added another storey to it

@GarethBurns18 @frank_broadcast How is it baffling? This has been the masterplan from the beginning. The only protected view of Titanic Belfast is from the slipways. It’s literally been the plan for nearly 20 years.

#StormEowyn thankfully passing. @belfastcc, tree and large branches down in the small green space at junction of Wandsworth Road and Knocklofty. BCC staff maintain it so assuming cleanup is council responsibility once safe? @AntoFlynnser

@BBCMarkSimpson @Translink_NI Translink shouldn't have moved the No. 8 and No.9 services from Donegall Square East. Bus alighting lane and shelters sitting there unused and services can no longer use the citybound Great Victoria Street bus lane.

📍Norma is 85. 👏 📍Norma comes into Belfast for some shopping & wee cup of tea. ☕️ 📍Norma wants a bus shelter here on Bedford Street beside the bus-stop. ☔️ 📍Norma wants @Translink_NI to help. 📌 Translink say they’ll do what they can. 📍Good luck, Norma.
