I went to a state school. I used to be against private schools. I used to think they were toffs & people who thought they were better than us. Then I matured. I now realise that in the main, the people who send their kids to one are just normal folk who have decided to prioritise best education for their children and often make significant sacrifice to do so. Alongside this, they also help fund the state education system, which they don’t use. Whatever problems state schools face, it certainly isn’t as a result of private schools. If anything, kids going private eases pressure on the state system. The closure of these schools are utterly tragic for the kids affected. The policy attempts to damage the private system are an act of societal self-harm. Anyone who celebrates it, is frankly, a fool. edp24.co.uk/news/26058426.…

This is what Labour wanted. 500 children without a school place. 170 staff made redundant. Their VAT raid on school fees was never about “fairness”, it was about punishing independent education. Children, families teachers and support staff are now paying the price.

For anyone who follows me and has an interest in Labour's attack on independent schooling; here is what the Children's Commissioner is 'supposed' to do. So the obviously salient question is - Why hasn't she been doing it in the case of many thousands of private school children?

I’m in Clapham today, after the M&S looting. Khan said there’d be ‘enhanced policing’. There wasn’t a single officer in sight. The community feel let down. Have a listen 👇

@joenutt_author @AdamJ10812 You won’t hear a single Labour MP mention how discriminatory the state sector is because they are far too busy buying mansions & snaffling up the best state school places for their kids. Same with supporters of VAT like @Samfr whose kids’ state school apparently rivals St Paul’s.

No no @bphillipsonMP - they are not ‘free’ breakfasts, lunches, clothes etc. someone has to pay for this and it’s the hard pushed taxpayers. You are so happy to give out ‘free’ stuff without any idea how to grow the economy in order to pay for it. Financially illiterate the lot of you. #NeverLabour

This government is focused on the cost of living. At @educationgovuk, we're saving families cash: £450 on free breakfast clubs £50 on school uniforms £500 on free school meals £300 on school holiday clubs Now it's confirmed we've halved childcare costs, saving parents £8,000.

One in ten parents have removed children from independent schools as a consequence of @RachelReevesMP education tax gouge. 22% intend to remove their children. That will be 120,000 children migrating. I’ll bet you didn’t expect this @10DowningStreet You’ll have to raise taxes to pay for this almighty cock-up and at a time when education in England is in utter chaos with falling standards, failing mental health amongst teachers and an addiction to EdTech in children. You couldn’t have made a bigger mess if you’d tried.

This woman ⤵️ is responsible for the taxation of 120k SEN children’s learning support, 25k displacements & the closure of 119 schools. She is incapable of “compassion.” @SuellaBraverman you must correct this & remove Labour’s spiteful education tax. #EducationNotTax

Labour is tackling one of the thorniest problems the Tories left behind — with compassion, investment and reform. We’re building a new SEND system, so every child can achieve and thrive.

Many private schools are not for the super elite or rich, they charge an affordable amount for an education that many parents make huge sacrifices or take second jobs to pay for. This saves the public sector for every child not having to be in the public s Education, the same way private medicine helps to alleviate some of the pressure on the NHS. In countries like Australia they actively incentivise this, here we promote the politics of envy. The same way we’re chasing away the top 1% of our tax payers. It will backfire…

Thank you, Gary, for sharing your story. Wishing you and all families at Alderley Edge School the very best. One of the most cruel impacts of this policy is seeing children lose friends, teachers, and the security of their school community. This was a predictable consequence. And let’s be clear: when asked directly about support for children forced to leave private schools mid-GCSE/A-Level, @BPhilipson claimed @educationgovuk had measures in place. They didn’t — and they still don’t. #Shameful 👇x.com/EducationNotTa…

Another 400 children now face complete disruption - Due to the politics of envy being the final nail in the coffin... Many, cheer this on. They won’t be happy until there is barely a private school left. Be under no illusion - the taxpayer will now be on the hook for the cost of educating many of these children. These policies are stupidity of the highest order🤦🏼‍♀️ knutsfordguardian.co.uk/news/25885053.…

This is so obviously now group action claim territory. Phillipson & Reeves need to end up in court over this. For children in GCSE or A level year groups, this may immediately wreck their high education options, never mind possibly having a lifelong impact on earnings. Appalling.
