@micsolana @DKThomp Mike --- is a tax not also an asset seizure? To me, both are... the only difference is one of timing. Both are theft by force.

there is no such thing as a wealth "tax." what you're talking about is asset seizure — a tallying of property, much of which is only theoretically valuable because it hasn't yet been sold, which was purchased with income that was already taxed... and then an annual seizure of some percentage of that property. this effectively abolishes the concept of private property, permanently changing the relationship between state and citizen in such a way as nothing we have is ever truly ours again. it is only on loan from the government. you are smart enough to understand all of this. is there nothing your party comes up with that you won't support? sad.

Are national wealth taxes worthy of debate and consideration in a hypothetical country with America's levels of deficit and inequality? Yes. Are they legal under the US Constitution without an amendment? I do not think so. So if you're legislative agenda is "I want to do the following 20 things and bank on a national wealth tax to pay for it," I'm worried that your actual plan is to spend several trillion dollars, have your entire tax plan wiped out by the Supreme Court in 18 months, and wind up with WWII-era deficits during a growth period with elevated interest rates, which is going to increase the cost of money and make everything even less affordable. And that is ... not an affordability agenda.

How does the bottom 20% in the US fair from a standard of living vs those other countries with less "inequality". The metric really needs to be quality of life for those with the least, not the differential... because that is what we are solving for right? That those with the least have the best lives they can.

The US has one of the highest levels of wealth inequality in the world. The US is the 6th-most unequal country, almost at the same level of the absolute monarchy in Saudi Arabia. The US is even more unequal than India and Mexico. Source: UBS Global Wealth Report 2026

The US loves to boast about how wealthy it is, but its wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few oligarchs. US oligarchs are so insanely rich that they make average wealth seem very high. But *median* wealth in the US is lower than in Slovenia & Portugal, and half of Italy's

Surprising (not really) stat from the new UBS Global Wealth Report 2026. The US ranks #2 when you look at average (mean) wealth per adult, but drops to #28 when you look at the median. ubs.com/content/dam/as…

@shaunmmaguire Its actually a shift toward socialism that caused all of these things... bailouts, government backstops, loan guarantees on school, etc. etc. Without these things, its nearly impossible to see inflation like this, especially in today's world of nearly unlimited competition.

It’s true that many in America are struggling Housing in particular is too expensive But the cause was not “greedy billionaires” It was overregulation and stupid policies, such as open borders The solution is not socialism, it’s a return to sanity with centrist policies

@SenWhitehouse Correct if you actually know how you should graph temperature changes… this is like saying it’s cold in January then being shocked that it’s warm in July. Trying going back further… this time horizon is a blip and not relevant.

JUST IN: NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani used America’s 250th anniversary to sharply criticize the country, accusing the U.S. of allowing children to go hungry while billionaires and “oligarchs” gain more power. He said America’s wealth was built by working people with “calloused, dirt-streaked hands" while accusing the country of allowing the wealth built by workers to be concentrated in “the soft hands of a precious few.”
