1. FAQ for #BetterMasks in schools and colleges - a long 🧵 My goal is to provide information to parents, teachers, and students who want to protect themselves, but also to give sufficient background to allow people to advocate for policy changes.

@missmason103 Looks like maybe “beach renourishment.” Dredging up sand from further out to blow onto the beach to replace the beach sand the tide washes away.

@gregkulowiec Depends on what you want to do. More text based (or within google apps) - Chromebook. If you’re leaning heavily into photo and video creation and editing - iPads. Of course, in education, price is always a factor too.

@DennisDill We get a lot of time off, but almost no say in when that time is. (Taking a vacation during a non-school vacation week is impossible)

We had over 150 teachers interview their students about pandemic learning and what should happen next year, and then report back. Here's what students said: 🧵

@pernilleripp I always used, what 2 or 3 things do your students love most about the school and what would they change? You can get some telling answers.

@dancallahan As a native Vermonter, this is why I keep my studded winter tires on until April break. (In MA they have to be off by the end of April).

Quick! Stop scrolling. What you see here aren’t just any clouds, they’re Martian clouds. Take a moment out of your day to look at the sky of another world. 📸 taken by my right Navigation Camera. go.nasa.gov/2QSoqja

@x_hj_x Or that the last time we had case numbers like this it was Halloween and we were canceling trick or treating (an outdoor, socially distant activity that already lends itself really well to mask-wearing).

To put this in some obvious context, things are as bad as—or worse than—they were last April/May, so the fact that e.g. restaurants are allowed to be open for indoor dining with no capacity limits here in MA right now seems MAYBE a little bit REALLY DANG DUMB
Eric Topol@EricTopol

The new case rise in Northeast US, started in NJ/NY, is expanding daily, now extending to PA and VT. It's related to B.1.1.7 (UK) and B.1.526 (NY) and relaxing mitigation. Aggressive vaccination and tightening are sorely needed.

@brholland Yea. I’ve been thinking we’ll continue to use Zoom, etc when this is over to build connections between schools and non-local family.

Not sure what to think about the state's back-&-forth but hope that given that their target date of April 28 is SEVEN WEEKS away - plenty of time to vaccinate educators & personnel. bostonglobe.com/2021/03/09/met… via @BostonGlobe
