That time I was trying to verify a JWT in OCaml and found a bug that I thought was in the JWT library, which then lead to thinking there was a bug in OCaml's main crypto library, which then lead to thinking there was a bug in the underlying C library, which then turned into the real problem being a bug in CLang 14.0.3 that @Apple hasn't patched yet.

@bgeron Yea tbh I don't care too much for the name and more for how it's gonna be developed. Would you agree that Twitter has gone through quite a lot of updates since new ownership even though they fired lots of staff? I feel like the company is healthy and getting better.

@cortesi I can imagine the difference is the degree to which society is built for parenting. How easy the kids are. And emotional intelligence before going into it.

This is not a universal take. My kids are a profound joy, and have infused my life with love and purpose. Everything is better with them here. I also have never had a conversation with other parents where we bitched about our kids ruining our lives, and I talk about kids a lot.

@GergelyOrosz Fastmail has an easy interface for creating/managing “masked email”. They newly integrate this with 1Password, but I’ve found the integrated UI still lacking. Because I have a domain, it’s still easier to use the catchall on my domain.

One thing I'm surprised is not taking off much more, across mainstream email providers is proxy emails / emails masking. Emails are becoming increasingly important, as is privacy to hide your "main" email address. What services that do this do you use/would you recommend?

@Lucretiel @Fishrock123 Scoped threadlocals is not the same as globals. Do you imagine there would be additional bounds on the runtime depending on whether the function needs (say) access to time functionality?

@Fishrock123 Yeah, the entire point is to make it not implicit, since implicit in this case is functionally the same is global. It's no different than why we moved away from exceptions towards Result.

This is such a telling example of the current way of thinking in CS these days. It's what I call the "Bob the Builder philosophy" where the research question is: "Can we fix it?" and the answer is always: "Yes we can!!" (thread).

In bash you use `ls -lh` to see file sizes. But @nu_shell’s ls does not have -h. The size column has type filesize, and by default it is printed in a human-readable way.

There's a doctor in my vague field who had his PhD and papers retracted due to research misconduct, as ruled by a disciplinary panel. Manipulation of data. Big furore. It seems he is still practicing and enrolled in a new PhD program at a prestigious UK university 🤔
