@iain_staffell It would be useful to see that animation side by side with an additional animation showing the lowest estimated LCOS across the plane.

Who likes a nice animation? 🤓🔋 Here you find out when lithium-ion batteries will be the most competitive for providing peak capacity (PC)... Or when is hydrogen becomes the best for integrating renewables (RE)? Let's walk through the cheapest storage technologies over time. 1⃣ Colours represent the technologies with the lowest lifetime cost. 2⃣ The axes show discharge duration and cycling frequency. They cover the whole spectrum from second-by-second balancing applications (bottom right) up to inter-seasonal storage (top left), and everything in between. 3⃣ Shading indicates how strong the cost advantage is over the second cheapest technology. The evolution of this competitive landscape is based on projected reductions in investment costs over time. These come from statistically-derived which are published in Monetizing Energy Storage: global.oup.com/academic/produ… Wonder what it would look like if pumped hydro is not an option? Or where and when a radically new, better technology would fit into this mix? Explore these questions and more on EnergyStorage.ninja. Get in touch if this is of interest!

@RonOlander @ThirdWayKessler @Acyn Per capita is the correct way look at the issue. Your risk is a rate figure or a probability figure, not an aggregate figure unless I’m missing something.

Raskin: He and his colleagues constantly try to link images of crime to what they call democrat-controlled cities. So I did some research last night just to clarify matters. The seven states with the highest murder rates In 2020…

@rcolvile meaningful liabilities are going to be on government balance sheets one way or another - similar to financial crisis. Question is does government finance the utilities defaulting consumer obligations with equity or another bail out security. Equity is nationalisation.

(Hence my suggestion yesterday that we should nationalise Russia, to really get to the root of the problem.)

Genuinely don't understand the 'nationalise the energy firms' argument. Whoever owns the firm, they still have to buy the energy at market price. If the government thinks that's too high for consumers then it has to bridge the gap whatever the ownership structure.

@BritishGasHelp all I want to do is pay my bill online. I can’t register on app or on the website. And when I call you I can’t get through to an actual human to help me. Frustrating.

@BritishGas hilariously I’m trying repeatedly to call you just to set up my account so I can pay you online but you tell me there aren’t no agents available. Any chance I can speak to someone so i can pay my bill!

@naomicfisher @alanbuxton This is my 7 year old child and we are terrified. But we don’t know what to do - what schools can we send him to? We are trying to get him held back a year but are concerned we won’t be allowed.

When a rigid school system meets highly variable children, problems arise. Our current system locates these in the children, with possible lifelong consequences. Here's how it happens. 1/

@Austen I’ve met 2 billionaires. One inherited. The other made a billion in a real estate bubble. They are not better at capital allocation than a moderately technocratic government

In a highly complex economy with a huge amount of assets, being really really good at asset allocation is a highly lucrative endeavor. The belief that people who are incredibly good at asset allocation should have fewer assets is just a bad idea.

@APHClarkson The US context is one where large segments of the population are armed and there is a strong citizen culture of the militia as the ultimate check on the state. What is the European comparable?

You can probably stretch to comparing the US's current predicament with West Europe's Years of Lead from the OAS trying to assassinate De Gaulle to the Red Brigades killing Aldo Moro but even that will require some cautious analysis and awareness of context

@jjprague @estellecostanza The best argument against impeachment is the risk that the Senate may not convict, rendering the precedent that violence against the Congress is politically achievable

@jjprague @estellecostanza They are afraid of setting the precedent that a President and a minority of violent followers can seek the violent intimidation or murder of opposition political leaders with no consequences

@LeaveHQ Perhaps we need a technocratic bureaucracy drafting and proposing law with a legislature that exercises veto or amendment rights. Wonder where we could find such a system.
