@nihalmehta @AndrewYang @EniacVC @TechNYC NYC really believes increasing taxes are the solution to everything. There’s so much inefficiency to solve, but that’s harder than increasing taxes. Lazy elected leaders are stealing from the people. And it’s infuriating.

New York is about to make a massive mistake. The NY State Senate is advancing a proposal to decouple from federal QSBS (Section 1202) — the tax provision that lets startup founders exclude gains on qualifying exits. If this passes, founders would owe 10-13% in combined state and city tax on exits that are tax-free at the federal level and in nearly every other major tech state. Even worse: it's retroactive to January 1, 2025. This comes right as the federal government just expanded QSBS benefits and New Jersey moved to full conformity. New York wants to go in the opposite direction. As a seed investor in NYC who has backed hundreds of companies, I can tell you: founders are mobile. If New York becomes one of the most punitive states for startup exits, the best founders will simply build somewhere else — and the jobs, tax revenue, and innovation will follow. NYC has built something special over the last two decades. This proposal puts it all at risk for a short-sighted revenue grab. If you're a founder, investor, or anyone who cares about the NYC tech ecosystem — please sign the TechNYC open letter before Monday below 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 Keep building, NYC 🗽

I meet dozens of AI Health startups every week and can tell you this is a big deal. Most of them will become redundant once this gets adoption. Your medical triaging, nutrition, fitness training, rehab, mental health all in one place.

The launch of ChatGPT Health is really personal for me. I know how hard it can be to navigate the healthcare system (even with great care). AI can help patients and doctors with some of the biggest issues. More here: fidjisimo.substack.com/p/chatgpt-heal…

I’m so excited for this - AI has the potential to improve so many lives around the world. I’ve been using ChatGPT for progressively more important things in my life, and health is the one area where I’ve been particularly impressed by the value i get.

@reidhoffman Cmon. It’s a cool idea but the mainstream isn’t even close to knowing about this or sharing their data with OpenAI. Anonymously asking health questions is way different than giving AI your EMR.

People on X shitting all over OpenAI for months, then ChatGPT Health drops: builds on and will expand high health use, will have huge beneficial impact, and is hard to copy (privacy, security, regulatory; not coming to Grok or Claude anytime soon). Critics seem oddly quiet.

In the past few months, I’ve been using ChatGPT for health constantly. Both for myself and for family members. I’ve been uploading medical records, getting them explained, doing deep research, and honestly feeling incredibly empowered. The only downside was that all of this lived alongside my very heavy other usage of ChatGPT. Projects helped a bit, but I really wanted a dedicated space. And the ability to connect wellness apps is an absolute dream!! So excited about this.

Getting help on health related topics is one of the most powerful uses of ChatGPT. ChatGPT Health is a new dedicated experience where you can securely connect your medical/health data and use the best intelligence to manage your health in a better way.

@nickaturley The delta between questions people ask in anonymity vs divulging health data is so massive. I wouldn’t conflate the two, and the more they know you’re tracking that data, the less engagement coming for the general population, at least.

Today we’re launching ChatGPT Health. People already use ChatGPT to understand test results, prepare for appointments, and make sense of what they’re dealing with. Health brings all of that into a dedicated, private home, with the ability to securely connect apps and medical records. We’re starting with a small group of users from the waitlist and will expand access over the coming weeks. Learn more: openai.com/index/introduc…

This is a data moat play disguised as a feature launch. The numbers tell the story. 230 million people globally ask ChatGPT health questions every week. 40 million do it daily. That’s already happening without any special product. So why build ChatGPT Health? Because right now, those conversations are ephemeral. Users upload a lab result, get an answer, and the context evaporates. OpenAI can’t train on it. Can’t personalize future responses. Can’t build compounding value. Connect your EHR and Apple Health? Now every conversation has continuity. Your lipid panel from April. Your statin prescription from May. Your flu shot from last year. All indexed. All searchable. All making the model more useful to YOU specifically. This creates a switching cost that’s almost impossible to replicate. Google has search history. Meta has social graphs. OpenAI is building a health graph. OpenAI has 900 million weekly active users and hit $20B ARR run rate. If even 5% connect health data, that’s 45 million locked-in users with the stickiest possible data type. They’re targeting $750B-$830B in their next raise, with IPO whispers around $1 trillion. Health data lock-in is exactly how you justify those numbers to skeptical investors.

@_simonsmith I think you’re missing the human behavioral readiness component entirely — most people are not going to trust their precious health information with AI and the general population is not yet knee deep enough in AI to even notice. This will fizzle.

I work in life sciences. ChatGPT Health is a big deal: 1. Will be available to all users. 900 million+ people. 2. Secured for health use. Encrypted, isolated. 3. Key health app integrations + medical records. 4. Customizable with health-specific instructions. 5. Trusted; 260 docs have given feedback 600K times. ChatGPT is already changing how patients search for information and doctors interact with patients. This will accelerate that transformation. I personally use ChatGPT for health extensively. I have a "Health" project and have uploaded loads of information into it, including genetic information. I also update biometrics in that project monthly. Having direct integration with Apple Health will be awesome.
