we’re being asked by the school to look ahead to the fall regarding “electives.” she has to choose a class and it doesn’t look like she wants to do athletics (school soccer is winter semester).
so we’re discussing in the car and she says “dad, i think i’m going to study Greek.”
my seminary textbooks on koine greek might actually come in handy! it could be really fun to watch her excel in reading Greek (she’s already doing Latin).

If the Bible is best understood in light of its original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic, why are so few of us actually studying it that way? @biblingoapp

The Bible is the foundation of our faith. Unfortunately, the languages of the Bible are no longer in common use, and the modern equivalents are different. Engaging with Scripture in its original languages should not be reserved only for the scholars; it’s foundational for anyone serious about understanding God’s Word deeply.
Austin Curtin from @biblingoapp joins Messiah Podcast to share practical insights on how learning the Bible in its original language can transform our Bible study and spur on spiritual growth.

@becomelutheran @marcxgajeton Biblingo is recommended by many schools and pastors 😁
English

@marcxgajeton I looked at that. I'd rather not create an account or sign up for anything unless it's recommended by school or a pastor

Yes, you will have to go through all the Retain and Fluency exercises to catch them up to your Learn progress. But there is a reason for that:
The idea of the recommended activities section is to provide the best lessons for each activity type. Fluency and retain exercises are meant to be easy to do and go over old material so you don't forget it.
So basically, the old activities never become irrelevant for review and fluency - no matter where you are in the lessons. It's always worthwhile to go back and review old material (even if it feels tedious).
Here's our support doc laying out the logic behind the recommended activities:

@biblingoapp will I have to complete all the Fluency and and Retain lessons to catch them up to my Learn progress? Most of the early lessons are pretty trivial. Will there be an update that makes those lessons retroactive to my progress? Or am I missing the point of the update?

DDofG (and its later materialized counterparts @doseofhebrew @DoseOfAramaic @DoseofLatin @DailySeptuagint) have been one of a few key staples for me and my holding on of the biblical (and adjacent) languages over the years.
Also shout out to @biblingoapp for their part in this as well.

One of the best arguments I can make for learning Greek, Hebrew, Latin, or any language was made by Gadamer in Truth and Method. If you want to see this played out, here's a great scene from The Newsroom (a TV show). youtu.be/r_cihQwG90A?si…

Hmm. "Church" in Greek = "ekklesia," meaning assembly or any gathering of people. In the Septuagint, it was used for and translates Hebrew "qahal," which in English is "assembly" and "congregation."
The word ekklesia thus came to refer to "the people of God." 🧵
Scott Christensen@pastorscottc
There is no plausible exegesis of a NT (or OT) passage in which “Israel” means the “Church.”

@biblingoapp @BaxterWilliams_ Thanks for the free trial. Now I can at least have some hope of pronouncing words somewhat correctly when reading an interlinear text
