If Indian cities want to build cycling tracks, they should first connect schools with the nearest residential neighborhoods where children are most likely to live. Students would then choose to cycle to school. 1. These would be short, repeatable trips 2. Has a high user base 3. Reduces traffic congestion 4. Increases physical activity and confidence 5. The chance of success is high as it is community-centered, involving parents as well. Currently, cycle tracks are built in random locations that do not connect important destinations, leading to low usage and neglect.

IIM Ranchi celebrated World Bicycle Day, marking a significant step towards its 'Green Campus & Nature Connect' initiative. The special day featured a cycling session with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff, all dedicated to fostering an eco-friendly and sustainable campus environment. Participants enthusiastically cycled and pledged to develop the campus as a pollution-free, sustainable, and clean environment. Director, IIM Ranchi, Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, highlighted the initiative's importance: “In our fast-paced lives, we often neglect our health. Cycling isn't just eco-friendly; it benefits both body and mind. The Green Campus initiative will inspire students and staff to adopt a healthy lifestyle.” He further explained that students residing on campus are not permitted to use motorized two-wheelers or four-wheelers, naturally encouraging them to prioritize bicycle use. This arrangement promotes environmental conservation and fosters self-reliance and fitness awareness among students. IIM Ranchi aims to create a campus where bicycles and electric vehicles (EVs) are predominantly used instead of fuel-powered vehicles. As part of this initiative, the institute has made bicycles available to its students and staff, which are kept at various bicycle stands across the campus. The users are responsible for the upkeep and regular maintenance of these bicycles.
