@dynamiteddan @WokeToTheBone @wanyeburkett @tompaja This is about a person who sits between a person and a basic need saying, “I bet I can predict based on a trait how polite someone will be to me before I do or don’t give them access to this basic need that I don’t own myself but just represent on behalf of the owner.” Pointless.
English

@bigbeachbully @WokeToTheBone @wanyeburkett @tompaja 🙄
Your analogy in a store:
“How much is this?
“$25”
Decent person: “Oh that’s too much, thanks anyway.”
Millennial: *walks out without a word*
English

@dynamiteddan @WokeToTheBone @wanyeburkett @tompaja Choose a word that better suits the scenario, but replace mortgages with food and imagine judging the etiquete that people use when trying to secure a basic need. It’s presented as a simple observation, but it’s a pretty gross OP.

@Ajenebk @michaelharriot So easy to disagree with this, so easy to agree with this. Such is food in NYC.

@wanyeburkett Conservatives can’t spend this many years aggressively targeting abortion rights and then feel offended this is how they’re portrayed. I have some questions on the casting choices, but it’s not a bad metaphor for how women have been made to feel.
English

@wanyeburkett It is pretty great, but our founding docs were written when 20% of the population were enslaved and life expectancy was 36. That we’re still asking for term limits and, er, liberty shows that the power hungry are insatiable and the intent of those docs may be lost on us.

@christopherrufo Both offered a foreshadowing of their respective candidates in the near future. A gifted and inspiring advocate comfortable with her legacy in Oprah, and a bizarre old man ranting about fake fighting in Hogan.

The key comparison of the recent political conventions is Oprah vs. Hulk. Oprah brought a fabricated narrative of oppression; Hulk promised to bring an aging MAGA movement back into the ring.
The politics of redemption vs. the political of nostalgia:

@eyeslasho We’re lucky enough to live in a time when educated women are business and political leaders and you’re saying ‘yeah, but they’re not having enough babies and ruining our future’ knowing that generations that thrived were populated by non-working women who didn’t go to college.

@bobbyfijan @Mealsandeals Why? You think on a Saturday night, there should be more kids in a stretch filled with bars and people in their early 20s?
I have three children under 9 and live below 34th St.
English

@Mealsandeals Sure. I have 3 nephews and nieces on UWS
But it would be better if there were kids in every neighborhood

@wanyeburkett This says that pacification with screens is a reasonable substitution for decades (obviously more than that) worth of practices that didn’t involve screens and created the actual desired outcome: reasonably well-behaved children who listen (key) to their parents. We’re settling.

@sarchasm9 @wanyeburkett Do you feel this in the US? Seems like generational US citizens are more interested in deconstructing longstanding traditions. I’d argue this is more true of the right. They’d likely say the same about the left. In the middle are immigrants looking to work hard and go to school.
English

@bigbeachbully @wanyeburkett Kind of depends if they want to become adherents, which is pretty much why people favor legal immigration. But it definitely seems like the UK is suffering from a people who’d rather not adhere to British society and customs.
English

@Rosserford That's when you know your policies and party suck. You need entertainment filler to divert your attention from the truth of how awful you are

@marsh_minnow @stellarjack There are many Souths, but central to Southern culture is a diverse expression of Black culture. Kentucky doesn’t have this. Virginia most certainly does. Ask Black Virginians if they’re southern. If they say yes, you don’t get to vote no.
English

@BrianRSolomon They’re not the same thing, but growing up in Norfolk, VA watching JCP we sure did call it NWA as kids in real time.
English

I envision a time in some far-off, distant future, me an old man on my death bed, as my last words escape my lips: “You know, the NWA and Jim Crockett Promotions are not the the same thing……”

@wanyeburkett Privilege is receiving preferential treatment in specific environments whether you believe you deserve it or not, although receiving said treatment is likely to lead to you expecting it. Simply believing you deserve special treatment isn't privilege.
