Remember, the founders believed in a weak president, strong legislature system, The Electoral College was part of the package to get slave states to join. It’s the last vestige of slavery still left in our laws.

@ericmmatheny Both are bad. The lower income folks will pay a significantly greater portion of their overall income than the wealthy, The better idea is to abolish capital gains and tax investments as income. Get rid of tax shelters, too.

What would work better? A flat tax rate where everybody - regardless of income level - pays a fixed percentage; Or A consumption-based national sales tax system where you are only taxed on goods you purchase?

@TRHLofficial Something like this has never been legally tested. There is nothing in the Constitution that says a state must pick its electors for the Electoral College based on the vote of that state. This also falls outside of the Compact Clause because it’s not a real interstate agreement.

The National Popular Vote Compact is wildly unconstitutional. First, it lets a handful of states rig the Electoral College by awarding their votes based on out-of-state popular totals, which goes directly against the Framers' rejection of pure national popular election, and the originalist interpretation of article II. Second, this '”compact” among states violates the article I’s Compact Clause which requires Congress's consent. And third, it guts federalism without a proper Article V amendment. End-run around the Constitution.
