@LBC for the first time since Farage used to be on LBC, I’ve switched off. Ali Miraj is so ill informed on what’s actually happening in Scotland. The way he talks over callers is down right rude! People like him make people want independence!

@Oldtimers365 As a retired paramedic I can say that a lot of people have gone to kidney dialysis because of tattoos. Just like smoking and now vaping isn’t a good idea if you want your lungs to expand later in life. Not worth it!

I asked Grok. Interesting reading. Here’s a list of ten notable Black historical figures who significantly shaped Great Britain, along with the reasons for their impact. This list draws from historical records and the web results provided, focusing on individuals who broke barriers, influenced culture, and contributed to societal progress. - **Ignatius Sancho (1729–1780)** Why: Sancho was a writer, composer, and shopkeeper who became the first known Black Briton to vote in a parliamentary election in 1774, after gaining financial independence. His published letters made him the first African prose writer to have work published in England, offering a rare perspective on 18th-century British society and challenging racial stereotypes of the time. - **Olaudah Equiano (1745–1797)** Why: Equiano was a former enslaved man who became a prominent abolitionist. His autobiography, *The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano* (1789), detailed the horrors of slavery and played a key role in the British abolitionist movement, contributing to the passage of the Slave Trade Act of 1807. - **Mary Seacole (1805–1881)** Why: A nurse of Jamaican and Scottish heritage, Seacole provided medical care during the Crimean War, often funding her own efforts to treat soldiers. She’s credited with introducing the Christmas tree tradition to Britain in 1800 at a children’s party in Windsor, and her work challenged racial and gender barriers in healthcare. - **Dr. Harold Moody (1882–1947)** Why: Moody founded the League of Coloured Peoples in 1931, a pivotal civil rights organization that fought against discriminatory housing and employment practices in the UK. As a physician and campaigner, he became one of the most influential Black men in Britain, advocating for education as a tool to combat racism. - **Walter Tull (1888–1918)** Why: Tull was the first professional Black outfield footballer in Britain, playing for Tottenham Hotspur and Northampton Town, and the first known Black officer in the British Army during World War I. His leadership and bravery under pressure broke racial barriers in both sports and the military. - **Claudia Jones (1915–1964)** Why: After being granted asylum in the UK in 1955, Jones founded Britain’s first major Black newspaper, *The West Indian Gazette*, and organized the first Notting Hill Carnival in 1959 to celebrate Caribbean culture. Her activism promoted racial equality and cultural integration in response to race riots. - **Andrea Levy (1956–2019)** Why: A celebrated author, Levy’s novel *Small Island* (2004) won multiple awards, including the Orange Prize for Fiction, and explored the experiences of the Windrush generation. Her work highlighted the contributions of Black Britons to post-war Britain and became the first Black writer’s pen to join the Royal Society of Literature’s historic collection. - **Darcus Howe (1943–2017)** Why: A civil rights activist and broadcaster, Howe was a leading figure in the British Black Power movement. He co-organized the 1981 Black People’s Day of Action following the New Cross Fire, which killed 13 young Black people, and his journalism amplified Black voices in British media. - **Phyllis Wheatley (1753–1784)** Why: Though born in West Africa and enslaved in America, Wheatley visited London in 1773, where her poetry collection *Poems on Various Subjects* was published, making her the first African woman to publish a book. Her work influenced British abolitionist circles and challenged racial prejudices. - **John Edmonstone (dates uncertain, active early 19th century)** Why: A former enslaved man from Guyana, Edmonstone settled in Edinburgh and taught taxidermy to students, including a young Charles Darwin. His knowledge of South American wildlife indirectly influenced Darwin’s theories of evolution, which reshaped scientific thought in Britain and beyond.
