I sometimes feel like the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 were the last “true” console gaming systems. Starting with the PlayStation 3, things began to overlap more with PC, and it started to feel a bit like a PC-like platform. Of course, exclusives still helped set it apart from PC, but it didn’t quite have the same unique identity that the PS1 and PS2 had. Maybe that’s why I still really love those two systems to this day.

Someone correct me if I've heard wrong, but the upcoming AES+ has since been revealed to be the MiSTer FPGA core baked into an ASIC. I've heard this means no way to update it with a firmware release if there's a bug. So I'm back to being a little concerned, but optimistic.
