everyone coming so hard for this take needs to state whether they can in fact walk home from work to their home. Yes I'm sure you can find an area of your town to walk in, but can you walk home from work? Most of you can't say you can, I'm pretty sure
Marc Torrence@marctorrence

This will sound like an obnoxious “only in New York thing” but randomly deciding to walk 6 miles home from work because it’s a nice day and you want some fresh air is really an amazing experience you can’t get anywhere else

It’s curious how I ended up photographing the Kowloon Walled City, along with co-author Ian Lambot. We ended up making the most thorough (and most frequently referenced) record of the place. Why didn’t any HK photographers concentrate their efforts on documenting the place? One reason is that every parent told their kids to stay clear of the place. The other, and maybe more important reason, is that it wasn’t considered a worthy subject. Had the Walled City lasted just a few years longer (it was demolished in 1993), I have no doubt that young HK photographers and filmmakers would have been all over the place. But it was erased just moments before HK woke up to itself. A generational change. The culture generation now values HK in a way the previous generations didn’t. “City of Darkness Revisited” will be republished later this year. Stand by for updates on pre-ordering! 1. Walled City, southwest corner. 2. Facade along Tung Tau Chun Rd. 3. Rooftop kids. 4. Mahjong at home. Link to books in bio. greggirardpictures.com

@HelenTBrams @EpicClipVault in some european countries there’s an legal obligation to provide care if there’s an accident. when you see an accident like this it’s typical to pull over and make sure everyone is ok.

@EpicClipVault Interesting how quickly the car stopped and the people rushed out after the motorbike crashed into the Audi…almost as if they’d perhaps been following that truck with the brand new car on it and pulling an insurance scam… Not saying it was, but it reminded me of those vids IMO

@ericpereira @PrinceWarexy @versaceschanel point to where in these articles it said that barbara said on camera that she was going to hook up with justin, where it said she was banned as a result of PR issues, and where it said there were photos of her leaving his apartment.

@jackcalifano ❌ hating trader joe’s for being an annoying cultural indicator ✅ hating trader joe’s for teaming up with amazon, spacex, and starbucks to destroy union protections in the united states (source: epi.org/blog/whats-beh… )

@GettingBucketzz @asubtlergin @jackcalifano sure, but TJs is actively suing the government with SpaceX and Amazon to dissolve the NLRB, which is the primary protector of unionizers in the US. Not every grocery store is doing that.

@PauliMdt @giulio_mattioli inaccurate in my case. i lived in NK for two years, never felt unsafe in my kiez. Our community was tightly-knit and i always knew i had people keeping an eye on me. Where i did feel unsafe? Charlottenburg, when a guy decided to whack off on me on the U3 and nobody helped.

@giulio_mattioli Sure, but this trend on German twitter where men rush to reassure they feel safe in NK is so 1950 (= if men feel safe, we’re all fine). No Berliner woman says that irl, even when they are big Kiez fans. Many things but def not safe for anyone who isn’t a tall man.

@DMacyBeckwith @DEADLINE Jim Dale read Bellatrix as FRENCH. She was a Black. SHE WAS NOT FRENCH. Jim Dale was terrible and not as good as Stephen Fry's narration. In my opinion.

@Joseph_Swann_ @aimeebalthazar @kenklippenstein the german tax rate would be difficult in the US currently because you have to pay for a lot of these things, but when you have mostly free healthcare and controls on the housing market, it is very livable. i am also happy to pay for the education and health of my community.

@Joseph_Swann_ @aimeebalthazar @kenklippenstein i lived in and paid taxes in germany for a while, i made a normal income. at no point was i hurting for cash or being “squeezed”. the difference is that in germany, those taxes also go towards big expenses like healthcare, or public transportation so you don’t need a car.

@L_Watson24 @tonystatovci @Delta You know…you could’ve just looked it up. 😂 They do owe you something for a flight delay of 3+ hours. They also owe you accommodations (if available) and transport, as well as meal vouchers if not more your flight is delayed overnight. It’s on their website.

@KyleMorgenstein @jsytnzen not say i have the qualifications to be an ME or EE, but it definitely allowed me to work adjacent to those roles and did ease the way for future jobs. but i do think its harder to get those aerospace roles these days — i got my 1st one 6 years ago.

I went to a talk during MIT’s career fair week circa 2017 where the speaker strongly made the case that over the next decade we would see an extreme oversupply of people with CS backgrounds but an extreme undersupply in domain experts with CS skills.
