NYT's @NickKristof to fellow progressives: "A black kid in Mississippi is 2.5 times as likely to be proficient in math & reading by 4th grade as a black kid in Calif. Do we need to look a little bit less at what the Trump Admin is doing ... & look a little more in the mirror?"

A newly released video shows two men attacking a 77-year-old man who was walking down the street in downtown Seattle last month. The incident was captured by the city's Real Time Crime Center surveillance cameras, which monitor public areas that have been identified as crime hot spots. In the video, the victim is seen walking slowly southbound on Third Avenue, approaching a pharmacy at the corner of Pike Street. Without any prior interaction, two men shove the man to the ground and punch him, the video shows. They are then seen walking away from the man, who is left hunched over on the ground as bystanders walk past him. None of the witnesses to the attack approached or offered assistance to the man as he remained on the ground. Amnesty is the last hope the Democratic Party has to rule America forever. They can't win over Americans on the merits, so their only choice is to import a new class of voters. The future of our republic depends on always holding the line against amnesty.

George Carlin infected Gen-X with this horrible apathy towards everything. The statue doesn’t just mock nationalism but belief itself. Any ideology, any group, any loyalty. It’s like they think they’re the first person to discover ideologies or positions all have tradeoffs, and because they’re not perfect it’s better to stand against them all. It’s as childish as it is false. A few minute conversation with anyone who puts on this front will quickly reveal which ideologies they feel are above such critiques. When exposed that John Stewart wry smile turns into the most vitriolic anger you’ve ever seen.

These totals keep getting worse and it shows why socialism won’t work The new requirements are able bodied adults over 18 without kids under 14 need to work, go to school or volunteer 20 hours/week We now are finding out that there are 4.3 Million Americans who fall in this category (10% of the SNAP total) 4.3 million Able bodied Americans refuse to even volunteer to help their communities in exchange for their food…

Nearly 4.3 million Americans stopped receiving SNAP benefits from January 2025 through January 2026. Experts say it's because of changes that make the program harder to access. fox9.com/news/how-many-…

Today we announce a new policy: In order to deport all illegal migrants in Britain, Reform will need to detain tens of thousands at a time. Migrants will not be able to leave these detention centres, and each will be held there a couple of weeks before being deported. So here’s our promise: A Reform government will not put any migrant detention facilities in any constituency with a Reform MP. Nor will we put them where Reform controls the council. And of the remaining areas, we will prioritise Green controlled parliamentary constituencies and Green controlled councils to locate the detention centres. Put simply, if you vote in a Reform council or Reform MP, we guarantee you won’t have a detention centre near you. If you vote Green, there’s a good chance you will. This is an important exercise in democratic consent, not just for our mass deportation policy, but for where the detention centres are placed. Given @ZackPolanski openly advocates for open borders, I look forward to their warm embrace of this policy. votegreengetillegals.com

@michaelbd You and I have talked many times over the years. You know, full well, that neither I nor anyone at Vox — or at the Atlantic — thinks beating human beings is a "salutary social reform." Don't become this guy, not now.

@michaelbd My biggest “aha” moment in our post-2015 racial unrest was Ezra Klein’s piece calling Darren Wilson’s version of events “literally unbelievable.” Why would someone holding stolen goods mouth off to a cop? Implausible! It’s not “something a human would do”! vox.com/2014/11/25/728…

You just have to bite this bullet. I assume that police could solve all kinds of crimes if they were allowed to drop by and do random searches of houses. But we all — and liberals especially! — recognize that this trades off against other principles. For some reason, whenever the topic involves kids at home, people forget that we recognize these tradeoffs all throughout the law. There are all kinds of things we could do to make it easier to stop criminals that we have decided it would be intolerable to do for other reasons. And this is not abstract! Real people suffer as the victims of crime because we are unwilling to violate other principles in order to save them. You have to have the courage to say that this is the optimal outcome.

Say what you will about public schooling, but at a minimum, at a public school there is a process by which abused children can appeal to outside parties. When it comes to families homeschooling on isolated estates, you really never know what's actually going on out there. Again, I'm not "anti-homeschooling" per se, but these are the kinds of things that homeschooling advocates are going to have to have a serious answer for as homeschooling continues to grow in popularity.
