Renan Bernardo is mostly on Bluesky
Really? I’d pay nothing. Ever. Magazine submissions aren't supposed to be Disney World. I pay as a reader to read and support the things I love, not as an author, least of all to acquire "benefits".

How in the world does Claire Keegan get away with publishing short stories as $20 hardback novels? Don’t get me wrong, I love Foster and Small Things like These, but they are not … books?

@SequoiaN I hear you on this. I’m so terrible at estimating future income. Fun fact, though! Stripe selected me for an academic research of entrepreneurs where they test me twice a year to predict what I’ll make in the coming months, and if I’m right, I get a $100 Amazon gift card.

@EricScotTryon @JukedMagazine Oh, congrats! But I didn’t know they were going under. And I recommended you and Flash Frog to several flash fiction writers I met at a writing conference over the weekend.

Even though I fly through this airport regularly, in my brain DFW will always stand for David Foster Wallace.

@DanFriedman81 @Darinstrauss I certainly don’t think that, but I do think that Trump has been pretty anti-war — not sure how that would affect the currently Middle East issues.

Explain to me someone who thinks, "At a tinderbox international moment like this, it'd sure be nice if Trump were in charge."

@sewistwrites If we're talking about fiction, The Talented Mr. Ripley is a great book written by a woman - Patricia Highsmith. She takes what should be a completely unlikable and unrelatable character and somehow gets her readers on his side. The writing style is also superb.

@_motherslug Seriously, though, I avoided cell phones and internet even though I wrote a modern novel by isolating my characters in a remote place.

I want to write a novel but I don’t want cell phones or the Internet in it and I don’t want it to be a period piece and I don’t want it to be sci-fi. Not a knock against any of that, much of which I love, I just have this specific vision but I can’t fucking figure it out. 🙃
