@joncoupland @mark_lloyd1 I do often wonder tho how these scams work. Like..you ring up and they say 'actually that's a typo, its actually 30k' - its not as if you're going to pay the extra by accident.....is it?

@t3nable The biggest issues are low quality components coupled with the drive for higher lum/watt. This causes shorter lifespan in chips and higher heat in electronics which shortens their own lifespan. A 250W m/hal ftg ran for years untouched. Progress?? 🤔🤔

LED lighting is one of the biggest misleading marketing campaigns ever. “LEDs will last 20+ years” Sure, the DIODES might if you keep them cool enough, but the supporting electronics are going to croak about as fast as an incandescent filament (Replacing more LED lights today)

SpaceX is reportedly developing a proprietary @Starlink phone to expand its satellite business ahead of a massive potential IPO later this year. According to a new Reuters report, the device would connect directly to the Starlink satellite network, positioning @SpaceX as a direct competitor to traditional smartphone manufacturers. Elon Musk has described the concept as a "very different" kind of hardware, optimized specifically for high-performance AI neural networks rather than standard app use. This hardware push is part of a broader strategy to diversify Starlink’s revenue, which already generates billions in profit, by adding direct-to-device internet and space-tracking services to its portfolio.

Cheap (<£2,000), automatic, old man car challenge - what would you have? 👴🏻 Citroen C6 Exclusive - Has to be the 2.7 V6 HDI at this price point. Can be an utter nightmare but seriously cool cars IMO. Ford Mondeo Ghia X or Titanium X - 2.5 V6 is the one to have obviously (if you can find one), 2.0 TDCi is a good engine though albeit a bit agricultural. Jaguar X-Type Facelift Estate - As much I’d sooner have the petrol, ultimate old man spec is the 2.2D in Sovereign trim. Rover 75 ‘Connoisseur’ Estate - Not sure the engine really matters with this one as long as it’s an auto. 2.0 CDTi is the easiest to come by in the UK, originally a BMW derived engine.

BMW will make it harder to repair their cars "illegally"- The company has introduced patented screws with a logo-shaped head, which are currently only available to official dealers. These fasteners cannot be removed with standard keys, which could make independent repair and maintenance impossible in unofficial garages. The patent will affect interior components and important assemblies - seats and body connections.
