It’s time ideology gave way to pragmatism. Labour and the SNP are standing between Scotland and the secure, home-grown energy we still need. Around three-quarters of our total energy demand still comes from oil and gas. That’s the reality, whether the ideologues like it or not, and it isn’t going to change any time soon. Blocking new North Sea production won’t reduce demand by a single barrel. It will simply mean importing more oil and gas from overseas, exporting Scottish jobs, weakening our energy security and increasing our dependence on foreign suppliers. Producing our own energy under some of the world’s highest environmental standards is the pragmatic choice. Labour and the SNP are putting ideology ahead of jobs, growth and Britain’s energy security.
