@mipsytipsy Every other year I learn anew how incredibly big the influence of team spirit/mood/psychlogical safety is on velocity. At least as big as hard skills. If you define the role of the manager in a way that it promotes exactly that - go for it!

"My engineering org has 40 engineers in it, but the CEO won't let me hire any dedicated engineering managers. He says we need everyone writing code, and can't take the hit to our velocity. I think he's wrong but am struggling to make the case.. help??"

The Product Manager makes $128,312 /yr on average. But it's hard to break into, especially now. Learn more than 80% of PMs know in 12 weeks (theory): - Before we dive in: - Please study carefully. This is not a race - Write in books. Annotate and highlight - Create a mind map. You can use a free tool: GitMind - 3 times a week, write a short post, start networking - Week 1: Watch The Product Compass Crash Course (25 videos) This might be intensive. The goal is to quickly give you an overview of the most critical topics: youtube.com/playlist?list=… Week 2: Read Inspired by @cagan Week 3: Read Empowered by @cagan Week 4: Read Continuous Discovery Habits by @ttorres Week 5: Read The Lean Product Playbook by @danolsen Week 6: Read Product-Led Growth by @wes_bush Week 7: Read Escaping the Build Trap by @lissijean Week 8: Read LOVED by @mavinmartina Week 9: Read Business Model Generation by @AlexOsterwalder and @ypigneur Week 10: Read Lean Analytics by @acroll and @byosko Week 11: Take the Becoming a Product Manager course. Get certified with a free, 30-day trial: lnkd.in/dksTzpP9 Week 12: Take the Product Analytics Certification Course and Product-led Certification Course by @pendoio and @MindtheProduct. Get certified for free with a special discount code: lnkd.in/eJ46BJvw - BONUS: Prepare for the interview: Cracking the PM Interview by @gayle and @jackiebo If you have no technical background, become a technology-literate PM (do not spend more than 1-2 weeks on this): lnkd.in/dCWr4bDW - The theory is not enough. But understanding it is a solid foundation. Hope that helps.

@PawelHuryn We have just hired a new PM. He convinced me because, despite limited experience, he already experienced cases where the solution by the book did not work and he had to think for himself and dared to do so.

Hey, Senior PMs. I'd like to quote you in my post. What is the most critical thing you consider when hiring a PM? What advice on resumes would you give to a PM candidate?

@onejasonknight The author takes the Scrum Guide literally and leaves no room for own interpretations (and adaptations). He argues like a religious fundamentalist. So my answer is 4) because using Scrum does not stop you from thinking.

Writing a blog post about #agile and #scrum. Did a typo: "Courage is one of the scum values."

@polak_jasper We do this ~30 mins/day. Sometimes, we even get into problem solving. Still, nobody got killed. What's wrong with us?

A 15min daily huddle saves 15 hours of confusion. Do: • Get super specific • Give every action an owner • Build momentum by sharing wins Don't: • Allow "all good, next" • Make it longer than 15min • Get into strategy or problem-solving What would you add?

I predicted The Last Interface in 1979 in this paper. Hardware brands will become: irrelevant and invisible. Software will shrink to a: conversation (text or voice). In 2023 we are in the true dawn of The Last Interface you can now see it with GPT AI. Every single thing we thought was technology will change. Welcome.

@JustAnotherPM WHO nearly always is wrong. Eg. homeowner is happy if roof is just flying stationary - an ENGINEER may insist on walls. WHAT mustnt be restricted to views of the user: Pillars support the roof even better. WHY is superimportant, but with current template users focus on WHAT.

Hey @DB_Bahn .

I've spent 9+ years in product management, and have led many products, managed teams, hired 100s of PMs. Trust me: most of the time, we don't know what we're doing. But we do know how to stay calm and make others believe in us.

@ThePrimeagen You are right. Your way of looking at this extremely important point is excellent. Thank you for educating all the developers in the world - even twice because we didn't get your point after the 1st commandment.
