I appreciate how this article recognizes that the Hardy Boys reissues aren’t just about reinstating a few old-timey epithets. The original versions are richer in plot, characterization, vocabulary—matters of real substance. Good press for @PassagePress.

@herandrews @PassagePress Dungarees Solar plexus Jalopy My vocabulary was enriched by these Hardy Boys words. I read most of the original books as well as Nancy Drew and still have quite a few.

@MemphoNewsLady Joyce, your heart is in the right place, but please point your tweets at the actual cause behind this, the Tennessee state legislature.

1/ The deepest attention problem in conservative circles is de-location. We've let news make the place we actually inhabit feel irrelevant. Neil Postman diagnosed this in 1985. The cause goes back further.

Wow — these are the books on the new Texas required reading list for schools! 🔥 Students will have to read classics like Homer's Odyssey in their ENTIRETY. Also excerpts from the Bible, such as the David & Goliath story from 1 Samuel. What else would you add?

Progressives arrogantly believe right-wingers don’t think for themselves. Leftists desperately wanted Rush Limbaugh silenced because they believed he told us what to think. They never understood most listened because we had finally found a national voice who held our views.

@VolGov53 You are exactly right. The night Willie Herenton beat Mayor Hackett I watched the election returns at Zinnie’s with a morose crowd who understood his victory signaled Memphis was in trouble. What’s sad is WW was significantly better than the men who’ve followed him.

@RolandGunnTN Dixie Youth coaches used to be farmers & war veterans who chain smoked and coached baseball in boots. Heaven help the boy who bobbled a grounder. When a boy fell, only a compound fracture stopped the laughter. They were also church-going dads who wanted to help boys become men.

For me peanuts in Coke were best when my grandfather opened the glass door and let me tug the bottle out of a machine like this
Branchman tweet media
Aakash Gupta@aakashgupta

Peanuts in Coke is one of the most accidentally perfect food pairings in history, and the chemistry explains why this guy can't go back. Coca-Cola sits at pH 2.5, roughly the same acidity as stomach acid. When you drop roasted peanuts into that, the phosphoric acid partially denatures the surface proteins on the nut, releasing free glutamate. You're generating umami in real time inside the glass. The salt on the peanuts suppresses bitter taste receptors on your tongue, which amplifies your perception of sweetness without adding a single gram of sugar. Coca-Cola already has 39g of sugar per can. Your brain registers it as even sweeter because the salt is clearing the noise from competing flavor signals. Then carbonation does two things. CO2 dissolved in liquid forms carbonic acid, which triggers pain receptors (TRPA1), not taste receptors. That mild irritation resets your palate between sips so you never get flavor fatigue. Every sip hits like the first. Second, the bubbles physically agitate the peanut surface, accelerating the protein breakdown and glutamate release. The longer the peanuts sit, the more umami you extract. The fat content seals it. Peanuts are 49% fat by weight. Fat is the only macronutrient that activates CD36 receptors, which your brain interprets as richness and satisfaction. Mix that with sugar, salt, acid, umami, and carbonation and you've accidentally triggered every major reward pathway in the human taste system simultaneously. Georgia farmers in the 1920s did this because they needed one hand free while working. They stumbled into the optimal salt-acid-umami-fat-carbonation loop a century before food science could explain why it worked.

@toddstarnes @DataRepublican These are the evils of democracy. Our compound republican governance system was designed to conteract these evils exactly, and has several safeguards in place for it, none of which are the happy path.

JUST IN: 🚨🚨 The "No Kings" mob is terrorizing and harassing local business owners in Memphis. A group calling itself "The Free the 901 Campaign" is blackmailing local businesses - either renounce the Memphis Safe Task Force or face a boycott. And any business that serves someone in uniform will also face a boycott. Local businesses are being told they must "renounce your support" for the task force and also "commit to refuse service to uniformed agents." Earlier today they went into businesses on Beale Street and handed out flyers to employees telling them why they were boycotting their establishments. "We are not aware of any public retraction of your business's support for the task force," the flyer read. For this reason, our campaign is boycotting your business and others who have publicly supported the task force." This group is nothing more than an economic terrorist organization. Feel free to reach out directly to the "non-profits" that are waging this boycott: MICAH, Black Voters Matter, Memphis for All, Indivisible Memphis, The Equity Alliance, ACLU Tennessee, Decarcerate Memphis - among others.

I’m reluctant to address money matters online, but maybe what follows will help someone, hopefully Christians. There are exceptions (understand I must by necessity write in generalities), there are always identifiable reasons the broke American got that.

I’m neither an authority nor a genius. I’m a late 50’s Christian man who observes and reads heavily and always have. I spent time with and advising truly wealthy Americans. I served in the church as a deacon and have known members struggling financially. Today I’m an elder.

This is a super bad idea. For every nightmare you hear about HOAs, when I look for a home, I ask the realtor to find me places with the strictest HOA they have seen. I got fined for letting my car tires touch my grass, and I paid the fine and sent in a thank you. because fining me for that keeps Cletus T. Peckerwood next door from parking his 1978 trans am with no wheels on blocks in his front yard. Which keeps my neighborhood from eventually having a check cashing store in it.
News4JAX@wjxt4

Last week, a Florida bill that would allow residents to eliminate their HOAs was unanimously approved by its fourth and final committee, meaning it is now slated to go before the full House for consideration on Thursday. news4jax.com/news/local/202…

Read this naive article: baptiststandard.com/opinion/voices… Then listen to this Islamic game-plan. Texans (& all Americans) better wake up (& they better not count on help from BS-type Baptists to help). We are in a demonic, civilizational war.
Dr. Maalouf ‏@realMaalouf

Islamic imam in Texas: “Mamdani was a victory for the Ummah. We didn’t succeed in conquering Vienna by the sword for 200 years, and now it’s 20% Muslim. We need to enlarge the Muslim population in America, just like we did in Europe.” Texas has an Islamic problem.

@FerdiBacon @Memphissippi6 @NormanDodd_knew I’m from Jackson, TN and I have Nashville relatives and have always spent a lot of time there. It saddens me what the city has become. I drove down Nolensville Pike last week and it was like being in a foreign country. Bring back the Nashville I loved in the 70’s and 80’s.

@ItsThaBOM @oliverburdick The utility is this: we are wholly reliant on the perfect righteousness of another, namely Jesus Christ! God’s standard of righteousness is absolute moral perfection. The only eternal hope for any sinful man is to rest wholly in Christ. All others are relying on themselves.

Contrary to popular belief, Christians are not the ones claiming to be good people. We’re the ones who accepted that we’re not and that’s why we need Jesus.
