That's a deflating goal. The #Canes were owning the first segment of the third period. They got two shots by Shesterkin, but the New York netminder got saved by both the crossbar and his blocker side post. Instead, now we've got a one-goal game.

He wasted millions of dollars and valuable time to stage a press conference and sign a document? Really?

There is little reason to think this is the end state Russia sought from this buildup. Russian forces are at a high alert status in staging positions near the border with 75% of its BTGs. That doesn't suggest Russia is planning on waiting for long and to keep this new status quo.

Recognition is now official, which limits potential diplomatic solutions. Wouldn't be surprised if we see Russian "peacekeepers" arrive soon as further pretext for a broader war.

@OAlexanderDK Or the speech is a continued Sabre rattle to try and get NATO to flinch. Troops have been sitting on the border for days. Ukraine is only getting more supplies and fortified. It seems like he is trying to find every way to ratchet tensions without actually setting foot in yet.

This is terrifying. Putin is basically calling the West's "bluff". He is going to take want he wants and dare NATO to actually do something to stop him.

Putin's speech so far is an attempt at using a revisionist interpretation of Russia's history to tell the domestic Russian audience what Russia could be and should be. This rhetoric is quite ominous. He basically said that all of Ukraine is Russian, not just DPR/LPR.

@Guderian_Xaba This… can someone explain where all these troops in forward positions are sleeping/eating? Do they roll up 2 miles from border and then return at night? As hard as these troops are, the basic amenities of 21st century living (bed, heat, phone, internet) have to be on minds.

They can't keep on this way for long, they will have to either return to bases, or go somewhere (maybe invade a neighbor).

Opsec is one thing, but in 190k ppl u think some would talk.
