There’s been some calls to return to the traditional written exam in the wake of misuse of AI in university assessments, but this doesn’t go hard enough imo, I think they should bring back the medieval monastic DISPUTATION

This report is both unsurprising to anyone who has been trapped in precarious work at Oxford and also jaw-dropping in revealing the extent of exploitation of casual staff while relying on them for the majority of the tutorial teaching that is Oxford's signature offering.
Oxford UCU Anti-Casualisation Network@OxfordAntiCas

@UniofOxford is the world’s #1 ranked university. Academics at its colleges are regularly paid less than the living wage. We ran a survey this summer about their experiences. The results are damning. Here’s our new report on pay and conditions for casualised staff @ucu #ucurising

@imanimosley I wonder how many were taught that part of the sequence by a specialist? I expect a good many were, but early jobs are practically nonexistent anymore. And it’s always struck me that 1000 years of music in one course doesn’t allow anyone to indulge in the music properly.

Hey #musicologytwitter: can anyone recommend a graphic designer who is comfortable working with analytical diagrams, charts, etc…? Thanks in advance!

Very much earning my Dutch residence permit today by standing in IKEA, staring at a box wondering if it’s too big for the back of my bike.

Something I missed about living in NL: the absolute RANGE of things you can buy on Marktplaats. In mijn buurt in the last 24 hours? Anything from foot photos to kebab shops to century-old stamps. What a world.

@giles_masters I’ve been finding this, too! And have been wondering where the communication is failing.

Today, we are launching a report which shows that studying a humanities degree at university gives young people vital skills which benefit them throughout their careers and prepare them for changes and uncertainty in the labour market: ox.ac.uk/news/2023-06-2…

These last two years at @MertonCollege have been incredible. I’ve had wonderful students and colleagues, and I’ve learned so much. I’ll miss Oxford so much, but am looking forward to this new adventure!

#amwriting and today’s best typo so far is “vernaculated,” which I’d actually very much like to exist.
