I'm moderating a mini-panel with some designers @NotionHQ to talk about designing software with AI + our changing prototype-first culture. What else would you want to hear about? We can dig into process, specific projects, anything related to AI/prototyping in code/etc.

@AdhamDannaway With most power users using keyboard shortcuts and quick search I wonder if they’ll make a way for us to hide that floating panel

I just started using Figma's new interface and I'm torn... 🤔 Their main goal was to simplify the UI so we could focus on our work. Ironically, I keep getting distracted by the action panel floating above my work at the bottom of the screen 👀 Is it just me? 👇

If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies. That is an unacceptable security violation.

@timhoefer @culturaltutor Whether using chinas culture or europes is irrelevant to your first comment right that the culture was used as veneer for meeting rooms? Are you implying buildings of meeting rooms must look a certain way from the outside?

What I dislike about this is that it decoupled aesthetics from meaning. The original buildings were created in a specific context, but Huawei just grabbed what they thought looked nice and threw it together as veneer for meeting rooms. Doesn't China have a rich cultural tradition to borrow from? This is a theme park, it's kitsch.

This city is not in Italy, France, or Germany. It's in China and it's less than ten years old. This is Huawei's R&D Headquarters, where 25,000 people work, and it might just be the most interesting office building(s) in the world...

@dotMorten Store revenue pays the bills and salaries of the wsa team. WSL acrues to azure and vs so has a profit center. WSA without a store is awesome but doesn't help windows financially

Adieu #wsa Was an amazing project to work on but doesn't matter how cool the tech is if you don't have apps in the store.

@artman I think this is such an interesting discussion. This implies that for web vs. native desktop there is no “tell”? It doesn’t feel off? Or is this a changing philosophy and linear will consider going native for the desktop app in the future?

When we started working on our mobile apps, we had the obligatory discussion on what to build it with. PWA, React native, Flutter, or go fully native. There's are quite compelling arguments for PWA and React native, the most important of which is that the rest of the team will be able contribute to the app much more seamless if you could business logic, or even views between web and mobile. But... even with React native, you can tell that an app is written with React native. Even the best apps have a tell. Nowadays it isn't performance, but it's that some native interactions, like navigating back in a view stack, just feel off. We don't want to create apps that feel off. We want to create the best in class application for the devices that we support. Even if it means having to write separate clients for iOS and Android. Additionally, we quickly realized that we don't want to replicate the entire web experience on mobile, but focus on the most important use-cases that you need on-the-go, and create a beautiful experience around those. We still have a lot more work ahead of use, but I've been using the app for some months now, and am happy to report, that it already is pretty great.

@8teAPi re: fiduciary obligations.. Firing Sam and Greg was the biggest blow to value of the company. Wouldn't the board but public enemy one for the investors' lawyers? Or does the "charity" status immune them from this

MSFT - Sam/Greg deal > 👀 you can’t do the MSFT deal without bailing out Khosla, Infosys, Thrive and the other investors > those investors maybe your best friends but they have fiduciary obligations to Other People’s Money not to get zeroed => they have to sue MSFT if Sam pulls 95% of staff away > all parties didn’t have time to negotiate out a comprehensive multi party deal => so there is none > ergo, Satya and Sam have provided verbal reassurances that “you’ll be taken care of, just play along” to the investors > Satya announced deal even though there may not be enough substance in the paperwork, just shows how aggressive he is and the trust he’s earned from his shareholder base => so there is a broad MSFT Sam/Greg agreed termsheet at least but perhaps not more. It’s really we-agree-let’s-work-out-details later. A handshake deal with just enough legal substance for MSFT. Sam is still playing for all the marbles, taking back the OpenAI nonprofit and controlling the board. The entire MSFT gambit is a backup plan/negotiating tactic for now. Likelihood of actually happening is low. >Meanwhile Sam, MSFT and the investors have an array of increasingly nasty tools at their disposal. => But using those tools damages OpenAI, which they don’t want to do.
