The ECD Online Headcount Survey is now open! If your ECD centre offers Pre-Grade R or Grade R, complete the survey online by visiting: gdesurveys.gauteng.gov.za The survey will be operational from 13 - 27 June 2025, and can be completed using a cellphone, computer, or tablet. You can also visit any listed decentralised walk-in centre across the province for assistance from Social Work Professionals in completing the survey. Over 10 000 ECD centres operate in Gauteng, but only approximately 2 800 centres are registered. Help us get the full picture of ECD in Gauteng by completing the survey. Let’s count every ECD centre – registered or not – to advance the ECD sector! For more information, contact the GDE on: gdesurveys.gauteng.gov.za Call Us On: 0800 000 789 or WhatsApp: 060 891 0361 Email Us: deinfo@gauteng.gov.za #ECDSurvey2025 #ECDLetsBeCounted #GrowingGautengTogether

Investing in Early Childhood Development (ECD) is investing in the future. The Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) is committed to strengthening ECD infrastructure in South Africa, ensuring young learners have access to safe, well-equipped spaces for early learning. On 11 March 2025, DBSA, in partnership with the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) and a private donor, launched the Gxwaleni ECD Centre in the Eastern Cape, delivering a safe and well-equipped learning space for 58 young children. This initiative has replaced inadequate infrastructure, where children were first housed in a corrugated structure before sharing a classroom with Grade R learners due to space constraints. The new centre now provides access to running water, dedicated toilet facilities, educational resources, and an outdoor playground. Beyond infrastructure, the project prioritises community involvement, working closely with parents, the school governing body, and emerging black-owned businesses to ensure long-term impact. This initiative aligns with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s commitment to expanding quality ECD access, and the DBSA remains steadfast in supporting this vision through strategic partnerships and targeted investments. To learn more about the DBSA’s work in ECD, visit: dbsa.org/case-studies/e… #DBSA #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment #EducationForAll #InfrastructureInvestment #BuildingTheFuture

Early Childhood Development is the foundation of our nation’s future. At the Bana Pele ECD Leadership Summit, I highlighted Gauteng’s commitment to ensuring every child has access to quality early learning. Collaboration between government, business, and civil society is key to bridging this gap. The work starts now—because a strong start in education means a stronger society tomorrow.

If you know someone who is living with a disability and resides in a dilapidated and unsafe house, I would love to connect with them. They will have a new home within eight weeks of our meeting.

Godongwana:To remedy this, an additional R10 billion over the medium term is allocated to increase the subsidy to R24 per day per child. The extra funding will also support increased access to ECD for approximately 700 000 more children, up to the age of four years old.

We welcome President Ramaphosa’s statement on early childhood development, which demonstrates that South Africa has started prioritising its youngest citizens. We continue to call on governments across the region to #ActForEarlyYears. This will also be our focus at the G20.

i don't understand this economy when nursing homes are so expensive they bankrupt our grandparents but nursing home aides need to use food banks. daycare is so expensive it eats up one parent's entire paycheck and yet daycare providers only make $10/hr and need second jobs.

It is important to note that the cancellation of the National Schools Nutrition Programme tender will in no way interrupt the daily provision of meals to the 9,7 million learners in our schools. The nutrition programme continues as is. Extensive due diligence is necessary before migrating to a new centralized system of the NSNP. This is why the tendering process has been cancelled.
