"Storms" continues @quayola’s research on landscape painting through computational processes.
Using ultra-high-definition footage of Cornwall’s stormy seas as a dataset, the works generate new algorithmic paintings where waves unfold slowly across a nullified space.
Human and machine collaborate to paint landscapes made of pixels.

Still can't quite wrap my head around this heartbreaking news 😥
As a fellow Swiss (from the German speaking part), I first met Piero sometime around 2022 in Zurich and have since met him many more times over the years. He initially got in touch with objkt around the release of editart, asking about display and indexing specifics (before objkt was on testnet). After learning that we were both based in Zurich we met for a beer and have stayed in contact ever since.
Both of us were building on Tezos and working on art-related smart contracts using SmartPy, which is an incredibly small niche within the web3 space and naturally led to lots of interesting technical discussions, sharing of ideas and also some shared frustrations.
He held a masters degree in computer science from ETH Zurich and already had a lot of web3 experience before coming to Tezos. Editart started out as a passion side project for someone working on much larger projects in other parts of the broader web3 ecosystem (As an example he was an avid rust developer and truly impressed me with how quickly he could pick up smart contract development on solana after we had just briefly spoken about some ideas). It was just a joy to discuss technical details and ideas with him and to philosophise about web3 and the niche art space within.
His approach to building editart really stood out to me. I remember him telling me when he started the platform that he had designed it in a way that required no custom backend and that he had been rendering the thumbnails on-demand on his local computer. His pragmatic approach and deep technical skills led to us trying to hire him multiple times over the years (though without success). He valued the freedom that came with his contracting work and his ability to autonomously build out his vision for editart, which is something I deeply respect.
Besides all that, as many of you know, Piero was just such a lovely, humble, kind-hearted guy and he will be missed dearly. My thoughts are with his friends and family.
Life is truly fragile, friends 🫂...

It is with a heavy heart that the passing of Piero ( @pifragile ), the founder of EditArt, is shared today. Piero launched EditArt in 2022 and has been an active member of the generative art community. His dedication to the medium and passion for art will not be forgotten.

Today we chat with Drobbit, who runs @dropdotart, you know, the coolest blind mint platform on @Tezos and beyond (yes, biased here) ✌︎㋡
He tells us everything about his website, Drobbina, CSVs, twerking, and his journey so far.
