@DavidShafer I'm 55 and a teacher in Florida who witnessed the Klan protest, in full hoods and regalia, outside of Pine Ridge High School in the 90s. A long time ago for sure, but it's a very clear memory.

I am 60 years old and have lived virtually my entire life in the American South. I have never to my knowledge met a single member of the Ku Klux Klan. It is a ghost kept alive by millions of dollars in funding by the Southern Poverty Law Center to keep us divided.

After covering this a while now, one thing I find most remarkable is the way the pro-censorship crowd will rush to defend this nonsense, no matter how nutty. (Why do kids really need to read Shakespeare? Or AP Psych? Or civil-rights history anyway? Kids can read other stuff.)
