💬 “We need to super tax the oil and gas industry and use the proceeds to help fund a mass insulation programme and renewable energy revolution.
This would both cut energy bills and help the UK meet its legal obligations on cutting emissions.”

The government has spent years telling us that austerity and low pay are essential to prevent inflation. Now we have the austerity, the low pay and the inflation.
The @JustStop_Oil activists now lying in tunnels at the entrance to oil terminals are among the only people who really get it. And for their pains and their courage they are piled on by people who don't have the guts to look our predicament in the face, let alone act on it.
Just as the gas crisis should not be used as an excuse to resume fracking, the food crisis should not be used as an excuse to trash our remaining wildlife.
There are much better ways to respond.
My column.

We need a government that focuses relentlessly on the survival of humanity and the rest of life on Earth, not one that generates scandal after scandal with its self-serving, greedy and venal behaviour. We have the worst people in office at the worst time.
Here's my article about who we are, why we're trapped, why we are heading for planetary collapse, and what we must do to prevent it. It might not be saying much, but I think this is the best thing I've written. theguardian.com/environment/20…
🤔.@RishiSunak says "The Conservatives can be trusted with taxpayers' money" - hmmm like giving contracts to mates and an eye-watering £37billion budget to Dido Harding which failed its main objective #budget2021independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
Sunak’s #budget halves air-passenger duty: a tax on flying. Remember: most flying is by the rich; 15% of the population take 70% of flights. A taxbreak for the rich, on the most climate-destructive action there is, flying. Days before #Cop26.
They’re spitting in our kids’ faces.
Yes, absolutely, ban intensive poultry units. But how does switching to organic chicken, as the Soil Association proposes, reduce the need for feed, and hence the pressure on the living world?
The answer is to stop eating chicken.
Of all kinds.
And switch to a plant-based diet.
