I am so excited to share our new paper in @Nature: the first programmable, site-specific integration of a large DNA payload into T cells in vivo. A single IV injection results in therapeutic levels of TRAC-targeted CAR T cells in multiple models. #Ack1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">nature.com/articles/s4158… a 🧵

2. Although most work and attention has been on engineering T cells, macrophages are the most abundant immune cells in tumors and many strategies are now emerging to target these cells Reviewed here sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Our new Nature study, lead by @yuexing identifies a brief early-life window when skin dendritic cells sense common allergens and trigger inflammation right in the skin without migrating to lymph nodes. We define this in-situ activation state as peripheral immune inducer (pii)DC, and show it emerges because of a still-maturing HPA axis and low systemic glucocorticoids. #Naiklab 👉Key takeaways: 1. Early-life immunity plays by different rules. During this window, innate responses to allergens in skin are heighted. 2. Hormones shape immunity in real time. Developmental neuroendocrine states profoundly tune how the immune system reacts, and can set the stage for inflammatory disease. New York’s research ecosystem delivered plenty of “nice list” rewards this year. Now we need Albany to deliver EBRI so we can keep that impact growing. Research is the gift that keeps on giving, so for a healthier and wealthier New Year for all New Yorkers, sign our letter to 🎅 >>> c.org/hwy54dWJDb

New York’s own Emerging Technology Advisory Board just released a major report—and its recommendations directly align with the EBRI proposal. If we want NY to lead in biotech, research, jobs, and innovation, this is the moment to show we share their vision and sign the petition >>> c.org/nDnRNSsVcq Dive deeper and read the full Emerging Technology Advisory Board report here: michaeljfox.org/sites/default/… and the “preprint” of the EBRI proposal here: amsny.org/advocacy/state… Both lay out a strong, evidence-driven roadmap for how New York can lead in biomedicine for decades to come. And this is just the beginning. Once the EBRI concept is included for consideration in the FY27 budget, the proposal will be expanded into a comprehensive statewide plan. For opportunities to help shape what is included during the “revise and resubmit” phase, join the NY-CURES coalition > nycures.org

Fantastic new 🗞️ in @Gothamist from @clewisreports... Our extra 2 cents for free! The Empire Biomedical Research Institute doesn’t compete with other urgent needs — it equips NYS to meet them. Not funding EBRI now worsens economic pressures; funding it will grow the economy to help fix them over the longer term. The economic impact of biomedical research in NYS can fuel free 🚍 and more @ZohranKMamdani ! gothamist.com/news/ny-medica…
