I heard that Bitcoin Twitter is so back! Now let’s see if this can reach all my mutuals 💯 BTCHEL is back this year on September 25-26 🎉 The first content from the 2026 program has now been published, and you can find the details on our website BTCHEL dot com 📲 Topics at the event include at least: the EU, Nordic adoption, all aspects of mining, BIP110 aftermath, the quantum question, proper self-custody solutions, privacy, individual liberty and human rights. The program is split across three stages: the Expo stage brings practical content for beginners plus Finnish-language sessions, the Main stage covers the big picture, and the OG stage dives deep into technical debates and development 🎤 The speaker lineup features 60+ international names, among them @francispouliot_ , @giacomozucco , @marttimalmi , @jimmysong , @knutsvanholm , @JoeNakamoto , @adam3us , @cryptoquick , @coinjoined @ericyakes , @CorySwan and @RichardByworth all of who are legends! The line-up also focuses heavily on lifting up local bitcoiners and presents their unique Nordic viewpoints🔥 There's plenty to explore in the expo area, with 21 exhibitioners once again showing up to present what they've got⚡️ Thanks to every community member, contributor and attendee. Let's build another high-signal, tight-knit event so we bring a glimmer of light to the ongoing bear market 😎 A special thank you for our biggest sponsors and contributors @Coinmotion @MinersLoop @BULLBITCOIN_ @EBEA_eu @Nordblock_Fi @terahash_space @ocean_mining and @lukedewolf @geyer_rachel @Robert_Elpis without their support and help, it wouldn’t be even remotely possible to do this 🫶🏻 BTCHEL is a conference where there's a prime opportunity to meet the field's experts, companies and community in person. The event has a track record of giving a boost to attendees, whether they are looking to get a job in the industry, planning to start a company, or looking to make new business connections in this space. It’s also just genuinely an unforgettable experience to spend the weekend with this crazy community 🤩 Also, this year we host our side-events calendar on @JoinSatlantis , find the weeks schedule from their app! This year, our heaviest focus is a new industry event called the European Mining Summit 🏔️ See you again in Helsinki 🇫🇮

@btcbenchmark I am looking for numbers to get a sense of risk. Will it be 1000 times harder, or a billion times, etc I don’t think there is a fool proof setup, just want to get a sense of risk/reward

THERE HAS BEEN A SERIOUS CYBER ATTACK ON BITCOIN USERS JUST NOW Do not panic, do not remake your whole self-custody setup overnight when stressed, it's more likely you make a mistake than that your coins are at risk Also, soon there will be fake phishing, security audit and recovery services appearing all over the internet, be extremely cautious on anyone contacting you directly about this issue offering their help Here are the facts (source: stacker news) A single address collected over 590 BTC in under an hour on the evening of 29 July. More than 1300 UTXOs were spent toward it, from multiple independent victims About 10 victims identified so far This is what makes it weird: many wallets were only partially drained: some UTXOs taken, others left behind, sometimes including large ones. (My current thesis is that the attacker saved computational resources by only searching for certain sized UTXOs) Address reuse does not explain the majority of cases, and since every transaction was p2wpkh, a long-tail quantum attack is ruled out Sweeps were not confined to BIP-84 paths Coinkite's nvk stated they had received no support emails about it, while others in the industry independently confirmed the issue What bitcoiners should do now? The right question isn't "which brand do I use” it's where did the entropy for my seed actually come from, and has that seed ever touched a general-purpose computer? A seed you generated in 2020 on something you no longer remember, now sitting in a shiny new device, is exactly as weak as the day it was made The lesson isn’t "coldcard bad” but rather that single-vendor custody means a single vendor's RNG bug is a total loss. Multisig across two different vendors, or seeds you generated yourself with dice, prevent this certainly After all, hardware wallets are just signing devices!

@BitcoinPierre No. When I was homeless I could not run a node. It was too expensive to buy an external hard drive and I couldn’t afford a server. It’s much more expensive now. Stop gaslighting

I've briefly worked in aviation, and the industry is fiercely competitive. Boeing and Airbus fight tooth and nail for every contract, both backed in various ways by governments, Embraer and Bombardier are also bitter rivals. But when an aircraft goes down, the priority changes. Manufacturers, regulators, and technical experts contribute to figuring out what failed and preventing it from happening again. The NTSB steps in and leads civil aviation accident investigations, and the FAA turns lessons learned into safety actions That culture exists because aviation understands one important thing: you can compete ruthlessly on products without competing on whether the underlying system is safe. A catastrophic failure at your rival is not really a victory when it undermines confidence in the thing you both depend on. Bitcoin hardware manufacturers should think similarly: investigate first and dunk later.
𝐓𝐗𝐌𝐂@TXMCtrades

@coinjoined I would like that in an ideal world, but this is a free market and businesses are competing, so the natural cynic in me just accepts it for what it is and doesn't seek to place what I would characterize as unrealistic expectations on them.

It looks like a coordinated theft (or drain) of roughly 600 BTC caused by weak/flawed randomness when the wallets were created. Here’s the plain-English breakdown of what the post is describing: Someone swept 1,324 separate UTXOs (unspent outputs) totaling about 594 BTC across ~500 transactions in a very short window (just 3 blocks / ~15 minutes). Most of that was then consolidated into one new address (bc1qq85v2c926eg6pgxhwp6q7lf6cnsz80qs3fcu9r) that still holds ~562 BTC and hasn’t moved further. The original coins came from addresses created between 2021 and 2026. All of them were ordinary single-signature addresses; none were Taproot. The author (and others looking at it) say this pattern points to flawed entropy in the wallet generation process. In other words, the random numbers used to create the private keys weren’t random enough, so an attacker could later figure out (or brute-force) those keys and take the coins. This is not a normal owner consolidating their own funds. The speed, the number of unrelated old UTXOs, the exclusive targeting of single-sig (non-Taproot) addresses, and the fact that at least one OCEAN miner also got hit all point to a systematic compromise of private keys rather than legitimate transfers. Similar incidents have happened before when wallet software, hardware, or online generators used poor random-number generation. Once the weakness is found, attackers can go back and drain any wallets created with that bad randomness—even years later. Bottom line: Around 600 BTC that people thought were safely stored appear to have been stolen because the keys were generated with insufficient randomness. The coins are now sitting in the attacker’s consolidation address. More investigation is still needed to identify exactly which wallet software or generation method was responsible.
Rob Hamilton@Rob1Ham

I've conducted some preliminary analysis of the ~600 BTC which have moved in a 15 minute period this morning. What we know: - 1,324 UTXOs were swept across 500 transactions all within a 3 block window (594.48 BTC). - From there, 562 BTC was swept again to a new address which has not moved since to: bc1qq85v2c926eg6pgxhwp6q7lf6cnsz80qs3fcu9r - The UTXOs that were swept span from 2021 to 2026 100% of the addresses swept were single sig, NONE of the addresses stolen from were taproot. At a glance, this looks like there was flawed entropy in wallet generation somewhere along the way.
