@Heavenly_Race_ Genius level musicians often have to interact with other musicians who are the equivalent of 20 IQ points lower. Part of the genius musician's natural ability is listening and responding to other musos in a way that brings the whole level up. Make of that what you will.

Once you hit about a 20-point IQ gap, communication starts to completely break down. It's not that the lower IQ person is "stupid" (although that can often be the case) or the higher one is arrogant, it's that you're literally operating on different systems. A 20 point difference (roughly 1.3 standard deviations) means: Vocabulary and abstraction levels diverge sharply. What feels like crystal clear logic to one side sounds like vague, pretentious word salad to the other. Jokes land flat. Metaphors get taken literally. Complex cause and effect chains get simplified into "this good, that bad." Different time horizons and pattern recognition. One person thinks in months or years and sees systems, the other is locked into days or immediate rewards. Trying to explain second order effects feels like speaking another language. Also, processing speed and working memory gaps. The higher IQ person is already three steps ahead, getting impatient. The lower IQ person feels talked down to or overwhelmed. Both walk away frustrated. Both have wasted each others time.

A 243-acre private Greek island is going to auction in November for €247k ($287k). Three years ago it was listed at €8 million. The island is Makri, in the Echinades archipelago, roughly 30 km east of Kefalonia. There are three abandoned buildings on it: a stone house, a water cistern, and a chapel. €1,000 per acre for a Mediterranean island sounds absurd and it is, but the main reason it's so cheap is that it's classified as private forest and sits inside Natura 2000, the EU's protected habitat network. So you can't build a resort on it. You can do agriculture and put up minimal structures, and that's about it. Everyone's debating what people will do once AI and robots handle most of the work and places like this start to look like an answer. It's a Mediterranean island where you can live off-grid, grow food, raise animals, and have a real physical life. Would you go for it?

@hoeflatoor One of the problems (not the entire problem) is that music mixing and music production have become far too visual. Every decision is made staring at a DAW resulting in visual to audio quantisation of not only music, eg rhythms, autotune etc, but also mixing and mastering

People say they have autism but can’t hear the difference between the movie audio of 1960s-2000s and how in 2012 there was a switch pressed that gigacompressed and limited all speech audio to sound like a box + in 2020 they started de-essing so much of the audio sometimes people have lisps. Just listen to the audio of devil wears Prada 1 vs 2 and you’ll see what I mean. Inflation hit everything. This is also in pop music. Compare Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton to anything by Sabrina Carpenter/Chappell Roan and you’ll hear it. Also Dune 1/2 have the de essing issue. These are expensive films to make yet the audio is shit. What gives. Why is it bad? It stops the ear from being able to perceive space. Cortisol spiking. We must return. This is why Singlish dirty talk doesn’t exist.

The CBC "prank show" deception scandal is getting so much worse. The producers (operating under fake identities/fake company names with fake websites) told a number of RCMP veterans - people who dedicated their lives to serving on the frontlines - that they were invited to film for a show called "Life After Service." A ceremony to thank them for their service would follow, and they were told dignitaries would be present. This would take place at the CBC Vancouver studio. They were told to come in uniform. When the RCMP vets arrived at the CBC Vancouver studio on March 25th and 26th, the "pranksters" took their phones away, which they claimed was CBC Vancouver studio policy. The former RCMP officers were also placed in front of an audience of what they were told were about two dozen "journalists." And it was sprung on them that this was a "live broadcast", with "media availability" afterwards! Then the producers switched up the whole session to be not about life after service, but the historical wrongs committed by the RCMP against indigenous peoples - to berate these vets for being part of the RCMP. There is so much more but I am hoping the individuals targeted in this elaborate scheme will be able to share their stories themselves. Seriously, what even sounds remotely funny or silly about this concept? It is just sick and cruel @CBCNews and @APTNNews... what are you thinking?

It’s another one of those days. My equipment was just smashed to the ground. That’s another broken tripod, and this time my DJI audio equipment did not survive. Police are already involved. They’ve been great. I had 3 visits from them today. This man had been staring at me from across the street for probably 10 minutes. He waited until my back was turned to smash my gear.

Spitting at me is disgusting, and I will make you famous. I had been on the street for 1 minute and was still quietly setting up my tripod — which would be broken two minutes later in a separate assault — and this man felt compelled to spit at me for wearing a sign that says “children cannot consent to puberty blockers.” Guess what? You don’t get to spit at me and walk on like nothing happened. In a proper world you’d be arrested.

Not one person on the planet actually thinks that Lupita Nyong’o is “the most beautiful woman in the world.” But Christopher Nolan knows that he would be called racist if he gave “the most beautiful woman” role to a white woman. Nolan is technically talented but a coward. Too afraid to do anything that even slightly challenges the spirit of the age.

@aswren The answer is a refutation to materialism: consciousness is fundamental. evolution is a byproduct of it, not the cause of it.

Dawkins is more intelligent than 99% of the people making fun of him and ‘if AI can be just as capable as us without being conscious, why did we develop consciousness in the first place?’ is a great question

@JimDMiller Only 3.9% of American men are over 6 foot 2. Not many of the female population who express preference for those tall gents (60% express that preference) will have their dreams come true, unfortunately for them. However, this works out decently for short-medium men and cats.

Even if there are average differences in some reaction time studies (0.038 seconds) using that to explain the skill it takes to play competitive games ignores the time, knowledge, and motor skill training that are the true defining factors to who can become a skilled gamer.

@thechromeqt Obviously at the highest levels of competitive play, men are better Only a retard would look at something that happens 100 out of 100 times and come to the conclusion that there's no correlation Biology is real even if you pretend it's not
