@dmnqwk @femgirled *smirking* can you take me to The Restroom I'm allowed to Go To, please? The supervisor, gesturing at the toilet and sink that you have in your tiny boring room:

@dmnqwk @femgirled I think they mean "use the restroom" as a euphemism for urinating or defecating, but the intent is that it is in the toilet in your room. Like someone might say "my dog went to the bathroom on the floor"

@femgirled I love the 'no loopholes' except - you're allowed to use the restroom, which is not the toilet in there with you. So find a way to exploit the 'allowed to visit the restroom' scenario and you're fine.

@esjesjesj Have you considered the fact that when I was 10 years old it was cool as hell, and my maturity has been in stasis ever since

YMMV on Nolan of course, whom I’m sure Orson would not have been into, but one of his strengths i think is that he has the lunatic perfectionism of a Kubrick or a Fincher but quasi-harmlessly diverts it into “I’m not using CGI, I’m doing everything in camera,” and ends up with…

why is the firelord title in atla so confusing? both male and female leaders of the fire nation are called firelords, if the male firelord has a wife, she’s called the fire lady, which kinda makes sense… but then wtf happens when a female firelord has a husband??

@HeadsUpSevenUp @PaganoDeCiudad @Jesse0pposite @Will_P_Paul @DaddyTonraq Maybe it would be helpful if you highlighted the relevant part or something instead of throwing a wall of text around. I see now that they say they started thinking of the vibes of the first avatar during ATLA. That doesn't say anything about when they conceptualized Raava.

Genuine question since ppl hate the idea of Raava and Vaatu, what would be your explanation of why only one person can bend 4 elements, can glow with a distorted voice and is the bridge between spirits and humans...?

@Dr_Derael @lvl5hm @birchlse The rational friend who can see into both boxes will always say to take both boxes. Even if they lie about what they see, they cannot argue against taking both boxes

@lvl5hm @birchlse Or your friend would just inexplicably lie to you. Since you friend is just a regular human, and not an omniscient predictor, they can't truthfully tell you to pick both boxes, only lie about it.

I still think that pressing blue is mostly nonsensical and is only winning because of the framing. In fact, people are highly resistant to pressing blue in many daily decisions where the buttons are more abstract even if the consequences are less than death
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

Imagine a circle, with a little spinner on it that you can flick. The circle is 80% red and 20% yellow, like a yellow pie slice. You flick the spinner. It spins, and slowwwly stops. Where did it land?

The calculus to press red is, to put it kindly, short-sighted idiot math. It begins and ends with “what input gives me the best odds of living” with no regard for what the world you’d be living in - where everyone you can trust is dead and everyone else knows it - would look like

@gideonstorytllr @thejoephase @Aella_Girl I think the 80-20 appearing here is circumstantial. If I recall correctly, in other examples whatever the question is A-B, the results end up closely approximating A-B

@thejoephase @Aella_Girl You're right, but I have a sneaking suspicion there is an underlying connection between the 80-20 principle sociologically and 80-20 psychological decisions like we see here, sort of like how the golden ratio is expressed across a wide array applications yet is all the same ratio

@SheepEtiquette @biggestjoel @G0ffThew Disagree that red is logical, even if 95% of people pressed red, which seems...unlikely, that's roughly 415,000,000 deaths which I believe is significantly more than the whole of the US for example, so even red's pie in the sky numbers are horrific.
