“Believe Me” is a powerful four-part true-crime drama premiering this May on ITV1 and ITVX. It tells the harrowing story of John Worboys’ victims, exposing serious systemic failures by the Metropolitan Police and the extraordinary courage of the women who fought for justice. The licensed black-cab trade rightly condemns Worboys as a monster. His crimes were unforgivable and cannot be minimised — that said, he is an aberration. While we recognise the failures of 2007–2009, we must also face what is happening right now in the private hire sector . In 2024 - in London alone, TfL revoked 41 PH driver licences for sexual offences. If there was a systemic failure back then, there is clearly one today. @TfL @TfLTPH @LondonAssembly @transportgovuk @GBNEWS @TalkTV @LBC

@FreeNow_UK r now showing that the market is controlled by platforms that: subsidise PH,steer, demand & coerce the choice over Taxis! With Taxis now on their App-Uber now show it to a global audience! Is it time for a Trade meeting on Taxi Apps?

@taximanant @FreeNow_UK Unfortunately, as we warned, these "bums" are now on the seats of PH. How could we be expected to win the war, when the enemy was lying within?

@taximanant @FreeNow_UK It's a case of locking the stable door after the horse has bolted. As you know, the questionable long term plans of these corporate apps was a constant cause of concern at LTDA branch meetings. These concerns were always met with the same CoM response..."they put bums on seats."

@jamesfarrar @tony_taxiT Should anyone be surprised? All drivers were warned of these apps final course of action, but chose short-term gain over long-term pain. Even the largest taxi trade org chose to take the corporate buck rather than protect the interests of its members. You reap what you sow.

FreeNow, once champion of the London black cab trade, is now slowly killing it. I order a cab from Russell Sq to Waterloo and I'm quoted £28 for a BC and £5.20 for a PHV w a £7 discount only applicable for PHV service.

The problem, Victoria, is that all London taxis are fully wheelchair-accessible - yet they’re forced to compete on the same terms as standard saloon cars. If we’re serious about accessibility, there should be proper incentives to retain this service: zero-rated VAT on vehicles, guaranteed road access, and policies that actually support - not undermine - wheelchair-accessible transport.

@guidoacasa @PaulParklane I don't think so. Regretfully, I've found that when Paul doesn't want to engage on an issue, he tends to deflect by way of sarcasm and spouting his "keyboard warrior" mantra. I don't think I fit the definition, so I'll be taking a hiatus from the pettiness.

@PaulParklane @guidoacasa I'm sorry if I've offended you Paul. I was merely trying to conflate 2 separate posts where you remarked how others pay to advertise at LHR in stark contrast to taxis, but it appears that our own orgs are shunning a perfect opportunity. I was only asking for your opinion 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

@PaulParklane @guidoacasa Ok. I've looked back at your original answer, where you agree that there should be taxi desks, but only if this is accompanied by the introduction of fixed fares. You make no reference to why the orgs are currently against taxi desks (if this is the case). What is your opinion?

@PaulParklane @guidoacasa I did ask. So, in addition, what is your opinion on the LCDC's accusation that resistance to having taxi desks in a prominent position within every terminal, is being led by our own orgs?

@PaulParklane @guidoacasa One step at a time Paul. We should definitely have a physical presence within the terminals overseen by professional, polite staff. In my opinion, the decision on fixed fares should be left to those who regularly work the airport. Fixed fares TO the port would be more difficult.

@burke1729 @guidoacasa I agree to having them but no point if we are just offering meter fares into town. Its a waste of space, I remember going upto one many years ago asking for a price home and got met with a vile pig telling me no idea mate its a taximeter do you get it? What would change?
