@orrdavid Someone marketed a thin US style 100% cotton tissue mid 90s. They failed, alas. Grocery Outlet got them. They seemed coarse but were much better on skin than paper. US Amazon has off brands like that Preceed. Tempted to try a box, but sadly I'm not seeing Grocery Outlet pricing

This tissue is so much better than any other brand I've tried before. It's somehow soft, thick and durable at the same time. I don't know if you can buy this in the USA? If not, someone should start selling it on American Amazon, it will be a hit.

@BarnieTaintpipe @finphysnerd I don't see most Factset shops likely switch to Claude, but it pressures margins. And fsd uses the Oracle approach to price: turn clients upside down and shake until money stops coming out. Question then is if they cut costs fast enough

Before this Claude release, I was replicating the ability to pull and clean financial statements from SEC filings programmatically. That was one argument against FactSet. Now, with the release and seeing Claude's integrations with low-cost competitors (such as Fiscal AI), I am now thinking about subscribing to Fiscal to access the Claude connector instead. That is another argument against FactSet. The third that would put me in a FactSet ecosystem, would be FactSet integrating with Claude, probably lowering the amount they can charge for their service. That's strike three against FactSet (and likely their only realistic path forward). Just a terrible setup for $FDS fundamentally.

Something I think people who brush this off are missing is that it's not about Claude replacing Factset now. It's about the fact the Claude is targetting this business, and this is the worst version of Claude we will ever see. Maybe it makes mistakes now but in 5 years if I hadt
Wall St Engine@wallstengine

FactSet $FDS fell 8% after Anthropic launched 10 ready-made finance agents for pitchbooks, credit memos, KYC and month-end close, added Microsoft 365 support, and expanded data tie-ins including $MCO Moody’s.

@Surtur @DeadsoundApp Yeah, I'd say plastic lined paper is my preference, but plastic like that beats paper scuffs from a trad sleeve

@DeadsoundApp I like the lined paper ones. Classic look, but the vinyl is protected against direct contact to the paper.

A collection of cool albums from the 80s & 90s that have a "proto-hypnagogic pop" sort of vibe. Mostly obscure and lo-fi tapes with psychedelic structures, surreal sound collages and hazy atmospheres. Industrial premonitions of hauntological pop

@SowingAlphaSeed His ETF/40-Act fund did well for the trailing year. Glance at the holdings suggests he caught a few nice current themes. I think blocking aggressively is fine. Curate a timeline and people notice pretty quick whose eg lacks all criticism

Apparently Pabrai blocks you if you say anything negative about him, don't even need to mention his X handle. So in honor of that, from Jan 2006 through Dec 2024 his fund returned 8.6% annualized compared to SPY's 10.3% return. His GFC drawdown was 67% compared to SPY's 55%.

Sometimes it all goes right. Even then this was an immediate -20% vs US, -30% absolute. I am extra bad at the short term. Starting to trim, that +10% day for a dilutive acquihire seemed frothy. Will surely regret selling/donating any, or not all

Messy day for the market but a few other lucky names (eg opra beat-and-raise) make up for copper, amd, inference etc

@prpl8 @MinvstrD I set defaults to terse/professional and add brief custom instructions, then say please and thank you to promote distance and formality. The goal is to get a helpful Spock persona. Works okay so far. Every tool has some utility, even nondeterministic models

@helplessdelta I dunno, I might have contacted the state unless I liked them otherwise. If they're doing that to hundreds of units, maybe someone who can fine them should hear about it a few times

@taobanker When to get paid is a big deal. With purely cheap names I screw this up a lot, either by messing up timing or not getting them cheap enough. In a perfect world they're so cheap, when doesn't matter eg x.com/i/status/20151… back when the discount to A share was over 50%
Gus@busgus

Haier D shares have been an oddity and an enormous bargain. Discount has been compressing, at Friday close it is a third. Business still executing fine, fwd PE about 12. Doesn't seem worth a tax hit. Dozy thoughtless long was more comfy at 0.4x A price tho

Have been telling ChatGPT to floor discount rates at 12% lately and it's been fairly insightful to think about how expensive time / opportunity cost is once you're deliberate about your expectations. For example: $TAP. Maybe undervalued but by how much and when do you get paid.

@AlexBerenson NY tax recapture is smoothed by a ramp-up zone. No cliff. Its estate tax has a cliff, iirc. Ianal not advice etc etc. Accounts that use the word midwit need to get it right. This one should have been deleted with public correction

First off, genius, 13% of $1 million is $130,000. Second, some states (hi New York!) retroactively raise the tax you owe on all income once you hit higher levels. They call it “recapturing” - as in recapturing money that once belonged to you. Midwits gonna midwit

James Surowiecki@JamesSurowiecki

I cannot believe this. Kelsey Plum really thinks that if she earned a dollar more (giving her a million-dollar salary), she would have to pay an extra $13,000 in income tax. That is not how marginal tax rates work! If she earned a dollar more, she'd pay an extra 13 cents.
