Just a Tommy Thompson Park appreciation post. Had to put together some pics for another reason and was reminded how grateful I am to live near this gem in Toronto (about 6km from the CN Tower for those unfamiliar with it)

Also rarely discussed is the negative effect of bike lanes on small local businesses along those major streets
If it’s too hard to drive to your local butcher and find reasonable parking, you won’t
And the guy on the bike is passing through, not stopping and shopping

A combination of many underutilized bike lanes on busy streets, combined with a lack of off street parking (e.g. public lots) is what causes the problem.
Pretending cars don’t exist (or shouldn’t) doesn’t change the reality of traffic.

University was just freshly rebuilt & paved with asphalt, curbs & bioswales—are we just gonna rip it up?
The bike lanes are wide enough for emergency vehicles, we should keep them as “emergency lanes” & cyclists can use them.

@ChrisSpoke If we want to create density, we have to acknowledge that parks are people’s backyards. We are essentially privatizing a park for wealthy people and then also ramping up density in the west end of Toronto.
We need less selfish folks making decisions.
