At my old mountain cabin we had mechanical room problems. Was told by local neighbors to call a certain guy. He comes in ... looks for a bit ... gets pissed off and then asks me when I purchased the house. I said in the last couple of years. Turns out he had submitted a mechanical room proposal to the previous owner who took the design, had another HVAC guy do, and apparently didn't do a good job. His inspection sticker was still in the closet from when he came out on the old system. Yikes.

@Bwatson Yeah pretty much sums it up. I’m glad they didn’t take my proposal to the other people they already had hired at least

Ahhhh the moment you find out you spent many days putting together a proposal and working a company to bid a job only to find out they already hired someone else months ago and just had you doing a song and dance for their “paperwork”

Remember two months ago when AI.com had a Super Bowl ad, made bold claims and collected credit card info? Their site is still showing: " success. your handles are reserved. demand is extremely high right now, so generation is queued. we'll notify you the moment your ai is ready to activate." Does anyone know anything more about this company or did they do a massively expensive signup landing page and then... 🤷🏽‍♂️

@arvidkahl When I was an intern my second summer at Microsoft we beta tested dailies on our personal workstations using floppies. FLOPPIES! 22 if I recall correctly, picked up from reception of bldg 18. Floppies. 💾

Sometimes I think fondly of this. Not because it was better, but mostly because it was a slower time, and “gaining tech experience” felt more deliberate.

"the "tab count" of a workflow is basically a proxy for how much AI can compress it" I love this framing and it is exactly what led me to build one of my most recent applications. As soon as I get through Google security review (it connects to Gmail inboxes) I will share, but it absolutelybuses AI and smart workflow processing to compress the tabs.
andrew chen@andrewchen

the magic of cowork and openclaw and other AI products is that they replace our giant row of infinite browser tabs And lol - no, don't feel guilty, I have too many tabs too. AI makes it so that every workflow that required 4 browser tabs and a spreadsheet is getting collapsed into one AI-native experience Just as one quick example- think about how you used to research a person or a company: LinkedIn tab, X tab, Google tab, notes doc, slack open. now one prompt does it in 10 seconds. the "tab count" of a workflow is basically a proxy for how much AI can compress it if your product eliminates 6 tabs and a copy-paste loop, users will like it. If you can create a whole series of these workflows then your users will absolutely love it. Thus the biggest opportunities are workflows where people currently alt-tab 20+ times per task. Sales, recruiting, research, compliance, procurement. Boring? yes. Massive? also yes. But this is why these agentic tools are going to crush AI doesn't need to be superintelligent to be wildly useful. it just needs to be good enough to close the tabs

@woutercouvaras They finally followed up. It's a slightly more involved process hinging on a demo video showing how the application works.

@sweatystartup The Turkish getup is one of the most useless exercises of all time. The limiting factor is always shoulder stability. Pointless circus nonsense. (I’m a serious kettlebell user, btw. 5x/week.)

I haven't done the following exercises in 15 years: 1. Bench 2. Squat 3. Clean 4. Dead lift I actually think it is ridiculous for non-competitive athletes to EVER do these exercises. Risk of injury simply too high. Much better: 1. Push ups 2. Body squats (kettlebell) 3. Turkish get up (kettlebell) 4. Single leg RDL (kettlebell) Oh and pilates > weight room.

It was supremely frustrating. My initial thought was that it was an MS Edge hate issue. I know Edge is Chromium based, but sometimes sites just refuse to work with it, but they will work with Chrome or Firefox. I have neither on this laptop. I did try Chromium from Ubuntu on wsl2, but trying to log into my United account laughably triggered the "we'd like to text you a security code" at 35K feet. I guess I could have turned on the messaging on my phone, but that clearly wasn't it since I was still not getting to the right URL and was seeing the same error on that browser. Hopefully I remember to a) reset my dns settings later today, and b) remember this issue in the future (or United fixes it).

@Bwatson @united Thanks for posting this - I've run into the same issue and given up before finding a solution, assuming it was just "normal broken Wi-Fi"...

To the people at @United - I am the king of the corner case Olympics, and this is for sure an edge case. I found a bug in your in-flight wifi that was quite frustrating. Trying to reach unitedwifi.com from your in flight access point kept looping back to page about wifi on United.com with this super unhelpful message. Root cause: I have my laptop setup to use Google DNS always. That has more to do with my office internet provider than anything else. This error is not helpful to anyone in terms of "does this help the customer solver their problem?" There is no search term that pulls up "Private Relay" on a Windows 11 machine. The in-flight crew was helpful but their suggestions of a) turn off vpn, b) use a different browser, and c) reboot your machine were not the solutions. It was only when I was poking around in my network setup to see what settings your wifi was trying to set did I realize what was going on. The helpful message to your customers would be: "We are unable to reach UnitedWifi.com. This may be because you have setup your own DNS routing and are not using the network settings provided by UnitedWiFi.com access point settings."
