I think most of the problems of black America can be explained by the fact that it’s a gynocracy. It’s a culture led mostly by women, and men raised by women—and women are the ones who go for theater kid crap like this.

@drantbradley It is my professional opinion that the young man, unfortunately, did in fact have cooties. Discerning young women always know.

What’s the difference in parents who raised the boy vs. the girls? This is also an illustration for why so many young men are frustrated today. I recently saw a video of woman explaining why was disgusted by her husband at first because he was too kind.

@NeilShenvi This gets pretty iffy depending on what you are tracking. I wish we had more seminaries that were open to lively doctrinal and theological debate and nuance. At least as a place of inquiry and a broader house than a church is of necessity.

Do seminaries keep track of their alumni's theological trajectories? If not, it's probably worth doing. It would likely prompt self-reflection about what is being taught, how it is being taught, and what dangers need to be pointed out more clearly.

One of the fascinating elements of the political moment is the "woke policing" of right wing evangelicals. You're out of the camp if you talk about racism. You're out of the camp if you criticize unconstitutional policies. You're out of the camp if you oppose almost anything the administration does. But if you have weird or obscure theological views, if you have ahistorical views of the founding, if you have bizarre ideas about the sacraments or the trinity, if you have views of manhood / womanhood that would have been unrecognizable to the early church, if you have racist or antisemitic views, if you are willing to excuse tribal allies who have demonstrably lacked character in the public sphere — NONE of that matters, so long as you stick with the tribe on whatever the executive order or Truth Social post or talking point of the day is. The reaction to the Piper post, which was literally a scripture verse and a rather mild explanation of it, is a perfect example. And it's one of dozens I can think of. This posture is poison, and it will rot the right from the inside out. Their only saving grace is that the left is just as captive to populism and tribalism as the right, and it's been out-of-touch enough and destructive enough to give the administration oxygen — as we saw the SOTU.

It’s kind of ironic how Bad Bunny was dancing on an electrical post at the Super Bowl halftime show. Puerto Rico isn’t exactly known for having reliable electricity. He could have highlighted the electrical grid crisis in PR and done some good with his platform, but he chose degeneracy!

I once heard sympathy and empathy explained like this: Sympathy is when you see someone in emotional quicksand, and with a foot on solid ground, you reach for the person to help them. Empathy is when you jump in the sand to experience it with them, and now you both need help.

I stand with ICE. Foreigners have taken our jobs, increased our taxes, and in far too many cases, even killed our innocent loved ones. Zero pity. “Your eye shall not pity. It shall be life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.” Deuteronomy 19:21

To those invoking Christianity in this current controversy over the shooting in Minnesota, it is important to remember that our God is a God of order. And he requires submission to all legal authorities. Romans 13: “For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong.” Biblically, what Renée Good was doing was actually a sin. She was breaking the law. She was defying legal authority that was justly being carried out. I’m sad about what happened to her. It’s tragic. But as a Christian, I can reflect that this is why Romans 13 wisely tells us to obey the authorities. It is for our safety and good.

@JennMGreenberg I would agree to the “wait and see” line on the FIRST shot fired. BUT, we also know the officer did not follow protocol for approaching a vehicle, shot two more times in the open driver window, then refused to allow a doctor to offer medical care. Those are pretty clear.

I’ll probably make almost everyone mad by saying this, but … It’s entirely possible that Renee Nicole Good genuinely believed that the ICE officer trying to force open her door posed a lethal threat. It’s also entirely possible that the ICE officer in front of her SUV genuinely believed she was trying to run him over. When you’re in a situation that tense, a lot of instincts kick in. It’s easy for us to watch video clips on X and say, “She is a terrorist,” or “He is a murderer,” or “Look at her wheels,” or “He could have jumped,” but they didn’t have that luxury. For them it happened extremely fast, in a split second, and they couldn’t see five different angles. They had time to react but not to think. And when it was done it was done. Pray for everyone involved. Especially Renee’s loved ones. Especially her poor children. And wait for an investigation to conclude before you assume you know all the facts.

Be brutally honest: ICE just shot this woman dead and claimed she tried to run over agents. Having seen the video, do you think she deserved to be shot dead? Yes or no?

@EndTribalism I appreciate the balance. If it was a typical police officer shooting I would tend to agree. In this situation I think ICE complicates things. Are they justified in being there and what training have they received. Those questions need to be answered.

Two unpopular opinions on the Minneapolis shooting: 1. The woman who died was at fault. She was acting erratically, inserted herself into a dangerous situation, and behaved in a way that put both herself and others at serious risk. 2. The ICE agent acted on instinct and fired too quickly. He should not have escalated to lethal force in that moment. We need full body cam footage to understand exactly what he perceived, but based on the video available, it does not appear his life was in immediate danger as the vehicle was moving away. The left is already calling this blatant murder. The right is already claiming the woman was trying to kill the agent. Neither narrative is accurate. The woman who died acted dangerously and recklessly, and the ICE agent drew and fired his weapon too fast. If both sides don’t pause the political posturing and focus on de-escalation, Minneapolis is headed toward another night of chaos just like George Floyd. ICE should temporarily pull back from the community, and leaders on the left need to clearly and forcefully call for calm and nonviolence. There’s almost no chance both of those things happen, which means this situation will likely get ugly and Minneapolis could burn again. I know this take won’t make me popular with either side but it’s just my initial thoughts on situation.

Dave Chappell said it’s a “reach” to compare Charlie Kirk to MLK, & dumbed down his legacy to being an “Internet personality”… He’s right. Charlie Kirk wasn’t like MLK, because Charlie didn’t commit adultery & deny the Trinity. Charlie was a Christian. MLK was not. MLK said & did some impactful, courageous things, but only Charlie is in heaven right now.
