Canadian culture isn’t built on one ethnicity, one religion, or one language. It’s built on respect, democracy, the rule of law, looking out for your neighbours, and the belief that people from every corner of the world can build a life together. It’s Indigenous history. French and English heritage. New Canadians adding their own traditions without taking away from anyone else’s. It’s hockey rinks, powwows, maple syrup, poutine, Céline Dion, Leonard Cohen, summer at the cottage, Tim Hortons runs, saying sorry when someone bumps into you, and standing in line without trying to cut. Canadian culture isn’t about where you came from. It’s about choosing Canada, contributing to it, and protecting what makes it worth calling home. Give me one thing that means Canadian culture to you!

I just had a genuine old-school community moment.
I briefly met my new neighbour as her and her two daughters were moving in next door in early July.
The other day, after buying a fancy new weed eater, I did my place and thought I'd do theirs too along the outside as it was overgrown from sitting empty for a few months.
My doorbell rang late this afternoon. I opened the door to two little girls standing there, each with a piece of Tupperware in their hands saying "thank you," and mom at the gate saying, "it's for the weed eating."
A piece of apple pie in one and some little brownies in the other...Homemade too.
I'm touched. 🥴
