Haven’t played any of the top hitters in Chicago, but some guy just sent his top 5 private and didn’t have Shoreacres in the top 5. For those who have played most….is this looney tunes or legit? His list. 1. CGC 2. Olympia N 3. Butler 4. Skokie 5. Medinah

Calusa Pines is a golf architectural marvel, crafted by Hurdzan and Fry. The course opened for play in 2001. Hurdzan and Fry took a flat piece of Florida farm land and turned it into something you'd find in the Carolinas. Over $2M of dynamite was used to excavate the lakes, which provided the dirt used to create the humps, bumps and hills! All the trees planted, except 1 lone tree on 15 that was there before construction started. Think Shadow Creek, but in Florida. The result is a test of golf unlike anything else you're likely to find in Naples. Calusa Pines has wide fairways, significant land movement, massive waste bunkers, and a fair amount of elevation change. The green complexes are fair, but incredibly challenging if you get on the wrong side. Often a bump and run off tricky Bermuda is the right play. You're usually playing for bogey once you've missed the green. Calusa Pines is a great golf club that is incredibly welcoming. Our host was outstanding and the staff made us feel like members for a day. The food is terrific, the cookies magical, and the showers are next level. If you ever get a chance to spend a day at Calusa Pines, say yes and get yourself to Florida!

Outside of the golf, one of the best things a public golf course can do is hire a good starter. Nothing gets your round off to a better start than a starter who is excited you're there, gives you some useful information for your round, sets clear pace of play expectations, and cracks a few jokes. A grumpy starter has the opposite effect. Players end up walking down the first hole asking "what's the deal with that guy?"

In honor of Ohio State winning the national title last night, let's all list our favorite Jack Nicklaus designs. I'll start: -Fyre Lake, Sherard IL That's it! That's the list. Every other Nicklaus I've played has been a slog and I've been excited to finish. I don't know if Nicklaus was ever on-site at Fyre Lake, but it's fun...which is a nice change of pace for Jack.
