Points to @poozer87 for transparency about his Thruway usage, and now I'm wondering how things would improve if instead he took CENTRO and Trailways or Amtrak, and interviewed their reps. Would there be more than 7 buses a day from Albany to Syracuse? soundcloud.com/user-18109193/…

Among those who've started commuting by subway as a result of congestion pricing: the Midtown diner owner who nearly convinced Kathy Hochul to kill the toll entirely. It takes him about 25 min from Astoria. apnews.com/article/mta-co…

Based on population, Rockland County contributes precisely its fair share to the the MTA Capital Plan - a little more than 2%. This includes interest on the debt. @poozer87 please call out Rockland politicians who falsely claim there's a "huge deficit"! capntransit.blogspot.com/2012/03/about-…

That many NYers are “agog” after the first week of CP should inspire all NYers – including soon-to-be former haters – to appreciate how the city has transformed, practically overnight, giving us hope for the City’s rebirth and reminding us NY can still do big things.
Congestion Pricing Now@FundTransitNow

Coming up on a week since congestion pricing went into effect, what do New Yorkers have to say about it? “Transformative,” “a street renaissance,” “a whole other world,” “THANK YOU CONGESTION PRICING!” and more via the @nytimes 👏🔥 nytimes.com/2025/01/11/nyr…

@Derrick_NYC I saw several that said 96th/2nd Ave. And also some cars say 57th/7th 🤷🏾‍♂️

Why do so many R68 Q trains say 57th/6th as a final destination? The Q doesn’t even go to 57th and 6th (it goes to 57th and 7th) and also, the last stop is really 96th? 🤔 @NYCTSubway (This was taken at 96th!)

@SenatorCooney @AlstomUSA Thanks again for your support of high-speed rail, Senator! Don't you agree that Hornell - where they've made trains for over a century - should have passenger train service again?

@ABarnardNYC And the time not spent sitting in traffic lowers the taxi fare, right?

RE congestion pricing & disability: Mom, 85, uses wheelchair (Parkinsons). Sibs & I often use cabs to move her around/from/to UES to doc appts (& museums/restos, her main pleasures!) We get there via transit & car. On all counts, pricing=faster, & safer getting her in/out of cars

I reaped these congestion pricing benefits today in this same area! Cab down 2d Ave to take mom in wheelchair to doctor on 59th St took less than 1/2 the usual time —saving us from missing an appt after a delay related to her disability.

Three days in and the traffic dip is holding; traffic volumes where I live (on 3rd Av, approach to the QMT and QBB) are visibly lower. Anger honking is enormously reduced, as is the sound of sirens and rumblers stuck in traffic.

It only took 3 days for New York to warm up to the benefits of congestion pricing after years of being propagandized by the dumbest and/or most self-serving political influencers in the state… we need to find ways to be louder than them if we wanna get things done quicker

NYC Transit needs to be better at adapting bus schedules. It took them months to adjust the M14 schedules to account for faster travel after they instituted the 14th Street Busway. We can't really afford to take months to adjust bus schedules to account for congestion pricing.
david seifman@davidleg12

Traffic is so much lighter in the congestion zone that MTA buses are running ahead of schedule. I've taken 3 buses down Lexington Ave. where the drivers sat at bus stops and green lights to avoid arriving early.

Key difference is that Routes 1-5 are within the congestion zone, while the bridge/tunnel routes just enter it. Why does it matter? It matters because of taxis and for-hire vehicles (FHVs - Uber and Lyft). These vehicles, by their nature, enter the area and take many trips there.

@eaconner And even that "before" map only shows congestion in downtown JC and in Newark, a tiny fraction of the length that Murphy wants to widen!

This is what traffic during the weekday morning commute used to look like in Hudson County before congestion pricing went into effect.

Hey @GovMurphy: Congestion relief pricing seems to be weakening “the case” for the unnecessary and wasteful $11B Turnpike widening project you have planned for Hudson County. Maybe it’s time to pull the plug on that and divert some more NJTA funding to @NJTRANSIT’s operations?

Tedesco should be mad at @GovMurphy and not NY for implementing congestion pricing. NJTransit could expand HBLR and reactivate the West Shore Railroad to provide commuter rail. We could fund it with money from @NJTurnpike; instead Murphy’s spending $11B on widening highways.
NJ Spotlight News@NJSpotlightNews

“We’re the most populous county in the state, most dense, and we don't have the ability to take mass transit rail service or a rail line into the city,” said Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco. “And that’s just not fair.” ow.ly/EJRf50UBxkc

@eaconner @KnicksRaph @Interstate2025 Not even parking! There was a time when they were laying a new gas line on my block, so all the parking on one side was removed for like a month. Nobody complained that it was more difficult to find a parking space. And with a subway coming, people could sell their cars!

@KnicksRaph @capntransit @Interstate2025 You’d think that but there’s evidence that road diets and capacity reductions like that just cause certain trips not to happen at all. What would get really bad is the parking, though.
